Burnaev, Sergey Alexandrovich. Hero of Russia Sergei Aleksandrovich Burnaev – the pride of the special forces (Vityaz detachment) Life path of the future hero

On September 16, 2002, the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin signed a Decree conferring the title of Hero of Russia on our fellow countryman, a native of our republic, Sergei Burnaev. But it was not the Hero who received the Gold Star, it was his parents - Valentina Vasilievna and Alexander Semenovich. March 28, 2002 Serezha died in Argun while saving his comrades from fragments of a homemade grenade. He became the second Hero of the Russian Federation from Mordovia, a Hero whose name is forever inscribed in the history of the military Glory of Russia.
Burnaev Sergey Aleksandrovich was born on January 15, 1982 in the village of Khovanshchina, Ruzaevsky district. While still very young, he and his parents moved to the village of Dubenki. But soon the Burnaev family had to move again. The Tula region, covered in military glory, became the second homeland for Seryozha. Here in the Zaoksky village he grew mature and strong. Graduated from Sosnovskaya secondary school.
On May 20, 2000, he was drafted into the Armed Forces of the Russian Army. Tula military registration and enlistment office, assembly point. He left this city to serve in order to step into immortality.
Relatives and friends accompanied him to the army: older brother Semyon, cousin Oleg, mother Valentina Vasilievna, father Alexander Semenovich... No one knew in which troops Sergei would serve. Everyone was joking. Valentina Vasilievna maintained the cheerful mood of the company, but her soul was not at peace. This was the first time my son had left home for such a long time. The mother's heart was worried.
Seryozha ended up serving in the internal troops of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the special forces detachment “Vityaz”. When a month of military service had passed, the parents received an invitation to take the oath. The preparations were short-lived and now they are in the unit. The oath was taken solemnly, and after that the young soldiers were allowed to spend the whole day with their families.
Seryozha looked courageous in military uniform. With boyish enthusiasm, he told his parents about his service in the unit: all the commanders are highly specialists, they perfectly know military affairs, hand-to-hand combat tactics, many have red berets as a symbol of honor and courage.
My parents left and everyday life in the army began. Sergei served in the reconnaissance battle group of the “Vityaz” detachment of a separate, Order of Lenin and October Revolution Red Banner operational division of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Training with full gear, forced marches, shooting ranges, hand-to-hand combat training - this is not a complete list of soldier training.
In November 2000, Sergei went on his first business trip to the Chechen Republic, which lasted six months. Here he served as a sniper. By summer the detachment returned to its division. During summer field exercises in the Moscow region, I sprained my back and ended up in the hospital. Mom, as soon as she found out about this, immediately came to see her son.
In November 2001, the time came for demobilization from the army. But Seryozha did not see himself outside the army, he dreamed of becoming an officer. He writes a report asking to be sent to junior commander courses. This period was very difficult for the division; many officers left the army. That’s when the commander asked Sergei to wait with his studies, and first go on a business trip with young soldiers. Sergei agreed. Preparations for the business trip began. He himself taught the soldiers the art of war.
In late autumn 2001, Sergei and young soldiers were sent on a second mission to Chechnya. Their location was Khankala. On December 12, 2001, he writes a letter to his parents: “...Sorry, mom, that this happened. Again in Chechnya...” On February 10, 2002, parents again receive a letter: “...A good-for-nothing son and brother is writing to you. I'm fine. Celebrated my 20th birthday after all. I love you all, I’ll come soon...” This was his last letter, and then there will be immortality...
In March 2002, the special detachment “Vityaz” was in the Chechen city of Argun, “cleansing operations” took place. From intelligence officers of the FSB “Vityazi” they received information that in the basement of Argun city school No. 4 there is a warehouse of ammunition and explosives, which could soon be transported to the mountains.
70 specialists arrived in 7 armored personnel carriers to the school, which was located in a vacant lot. Having examined the area, they saw that several houses stood close to each other. The special forces, under the cover of combat vehicles, redeployed to the school. The abandoned three-story school was empty, there was broken furniture in the classrooms, and there was devastation all around. Meter by meter they combed the corridors and classrooms. So the fighters reached the basement. Employees of the regional FSB warned that there may be underground passages under the building leading to nearby houses, as well as security groups - suicide bombers. We walked in the dark and tried to illuminate the road with flashlights. And suddenly the light of a flashlight caught an army shell lying on the floor, which the bandits used as the main combat element of powerful homemade landmines. The group, which included Seryozha Burnaev, continued moving through the basement. In the next room they found a sports bag containing a machine gun with an under-barrel grenade launcher and an unloading vest with ammunition. Step by step, the group combed the school basement. Suddenly, machine gun fire was heard from behind the dilapidated wall. The militants were shooting. The special forces threw hand grenades at the firing point. This is how war correspondents described that fateful battle: “The dust from the last explosion had not yet settled on the concrete floor when an assault group flew into the room and found two militants. One, with his stomach torn open by shrapnel, was already choking on blood, the other was shell-shocked. Near the bandits they found a substantial warehouse of ammunition: Kalashnikov assault rifles with under-barrel grenade launchers, zinc with cartridges, grenades and shots for grenade launchers...”
Sergei was the first in the assault group. And suddenly, almost point blank, a machine gun burst hit from the darkness. The militants hid behind a wall and fired at the special forces from the embrasure. Let us again turn to the newspaper lines of the army newspaper: “... The group instantly reacted and responded with fierce fire. Flashes of bursts and grenades blazing with deadly explosions filled one of the basement rooms. The platoon commander was wounded, two more conscripts were wounded...”
The militants separated Sergei Burnaev from his comrades with fire. They shouted at him to leave, but he made signs: I’m staying to provide cover. The group rolled back - the wounded had to be pulled out, and the ammunition was already running out... When the last fighter from Sergei’s group left the shelling zone, the basement was rocked by a strong explosion: Burnaev ran out of cartridges, and he blew himself up and the bandits surrounding him...” So they wrote newspapers. But the official message about the death of the Hero that came to the parents from the military commissar of the Zaoksky district of the Tula region, captain 2nd rank Ivanov, was as follows: “We inform you that your son, Sergeant Burnaev Sergey Aleksandrovich, on March 28, 2002, while doing military service in the Chechen Republic, died heroically during a special operation in the city. .Argun. A reconnaissance group of the Internal Troops “cleared” the building of city school No. 4, in the basement of which the militants had set up a weapons and ammunition warehouse. The bandits defended themselves brutally. The battle took place in a narrow corridor, a grenade flew right under the feet of four fighters. In a confined space, everyone was threatened with death from shrapnel, and then the group commander, Sergeant Burnaev, threw himself on the grenade and took the full power of the explosion upon himself...” This is how our fellow countryman, Sergei Burnaev, died. On the day of the Hero’s funeral, by decision of the Council of the Vityaz detachment, the parents were given a maroon beret. The name of Sergei Burnaev is forever included in the lists of the unit where he served.
May 9, 2003 on Victory Day in the village. Dubenki solemnly unveiled the bust of Hero of Russia Sergei Burnaev. At the rally, the head of the district, N.F. Polezhaev, said: “The residents of Dubent are proud of their fellow countryman - the Hero and will sacredly honor his memory, carefully preserve and pass on to future generations the heroic feat of his countryman.”
Sculptor N.M. Filatov depicted a warrior in a maroon beret, which Sergei so dreamed of receiving from the hands of military officers. Wearing a maroon beret is a high honor for a special forces soldier. In 1979, the maroon beret was established as a sign of special distinction.
From the memoirs of Hero’s father Alexander Semenovich: “The first time Sergei did not pass the exam to receive a maroon beret: he was “forgotten on the assault strip.” The exams are generally very difficult - a 12-kilometer march over rough terrain with full combat gear (about 40 kg - body armor, helmet, full set of weapons, etc.). 82 people tested with Sergei, but only 4 passed.”
The name of the Hero is immortalized in the Tula region, the school where he studied is now named in his honor. A memorial plaque was unveiled in Saransk; in the Memorial Museum of Military and Labor Feats of 1941-1945, a section of the exhibition is dedicated to the Hero of Russia, Sergeant Burnaev Sergei Alexandrovich.

For courage and heroism, for selfless service to the Motherland, Sergeant Burnaev was awarded the Cross “Special Forces for Service in the Caucasus” (posthumously, April 2002), the Medal “For Military Valor” (posthumously, March 2002).

On November 10, 2002, President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin presented the Gold Star medal of the Hero of Russia to the mother of S.A. Burnaev. In the Hero’s homeland, in the village of Dubyonki, a monument was erected in his honor, and in the village of Zaoksky, Tula Region, there is a memorial plaque on the building of the school where the Hero studied. Hero of Russia S. A. Burnaev is forever included in the lists of his military unit of the Internal Troops. In the city of Reutov, Moscow region, on the Alley of Heroes of the military memorial complex “To all Reutov residents who died for the Fatherland” (Victory Street), a bronze bust of the hero was also installed.

Exactly ten years later, on March 28, 2012, Sergei Burnaev’s feat was repeated by Major Sergei Solnechnikov, battalion commander of the Russian Signal Corps. During an exercise, a conscript soldier unsuccessfully threw an RGD-5 combat grenade so that it ended up in the kill zone of his fellow soldiers. The officer instantly realized what had happened, pushed the confused soldier away, covered the grenade with himself and saved the soldier at the cost of his life.

He was just beginning to live. Was going to get married. I dreamed of building my own house. The battle in the Chechen city of Argun immediately ruined all his plans. On March 27, 2002, time stood still for Serezha Burnaev...

He was born and lived until he was five years old in Dubyonki in Mordovia. Then he and his family moved to the Tula region. My parents lived very modestly. My father became a laborer, my mother became an accountant at a construction company. They settled in an old wooden barracks. They hoped that over time everything would work out and a better life would come for their sons.

The youngest, Seryozha, was always very open, serious beyond his years. He stood up for the weak, stood up for the offended. From the age of five I studied karate. Over the years, this has grown into a professional hobby. Sergei even had several belts. He did not have a strong physique. The draft board even determined that he was underweight.

I dreamed of joining the army since I was seventeen. The military registration and enlistment office cooled his ardor: it was not allowed. They said, be patient, guy, another year, everything has its time. He waited patiently. He got a job at a chemical products factory. He did not disdain any work. Didn't smoke or drink, by the way. Although this is not fashionable today...

Seryozha really wanted to join the special forces or the airborne forces. In May 2000, his dream came true. He was drafted into the Vityaz special forces detachment of the elite division of internal troops. And already in November there was my first business trip to Chechnya. For a long six months.

In November 2001 - second business trip. The first letter from Sergei arrived on December 12. “Sorry, mom, this happened. Again in Chechnya..."

My mother, Valentina Vasilyevna, was worried, terribly worried. My heart ached and ached. And then I was tormented by terrible dreams. She dreamed that her son was running away somewhere, she was trying to catch up with him, but she couldn’t. The last letter arrived on February 10th. “This is your unlucky son and brother writing. I'm fine. Celebrated my birthday. 20 years after all. I love you all. I'll be there soon".

“Vityazi” at that time were in the Chechen city of Argun. According to the information they received, there was a large weapons warehouse in the basement of city school No. 4. It was decided to involve professionals in the operation. On March 27, 70 special forces arrived at the school building in 7 armored personnel carriers. Among them was our fellow countryman. A battle broke out in the dungeon. The special forces came into fire contact with the militants guarding the weapons depot. Resisting, the bandits threw a grenade at our fighters. In the dungeon, the death of many children was inevitable. Without hesitation, Sergeant Burnaev covered the grenade with his body. He died. But his comrades survived. And they completed the operation.

The terrible news of Sergei's death instantly reached Mordovia. Here, in his homeland, there are many people close and dear to him. A whole delegation from the village of Dubenki went to the funeral in the Tula village of Zaoksky.

The funeral took place on April 8. The day before, on Friday, one on one, without witnesses, the “Vityazis” said goodbye to their fallen comrade. They asked to be given this opportunity. They did not want to show his loved ones their tears.

Sergei did not want to leave the army until he earned the “maroon” beret. His dream came true. True, after death.

“One of Serezha’s friends, those who were next to him at the time of his death, was accompanied by a zinc coffin,” says the deceased’s cousin Tatyana Shigaeva. “The soldiers brought a maroon beret into the house along with the body. One of the fighters kissed him and said: “No one should touch the beret. Sergei deserved it."

His girlfriend Masha also came to say goodbye to Seryozha. His parents were waiting for their marriage, dreaming of grandchildren...

“I don’t want anything in this life anymore,” cried the father, Alexander Semenovich.

Trouble does not come to the house alone. The Burnaev family, having lost their son overnight, was essentially left without a livelihood. Sergei's father recently lost his job. The mother was given notice of dismissal on the second day after her son’s death. They continue to live in a wooden barracks. True, the administration promises to allocate an apartment. But the two dark barracks rooms are now too spacious for them.

Sergei was planning to return in May to introduce his bride to his parents. Finish the house. Did not have time…

Four years ago he came to Dubyonki for the last time. He was glad how many relatives, cousins and brothers he had here.

“Let’s all get together sometime,” he suggested, “when I serve in the army, I’ll come and meet.”

They had a chance to see each other at his own funeral.

P.S. By decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated September 16, 2002, Sergeant Sergei Aleksandrovich Burnaev was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously) for courage and heroism shown in the performance of military duty in the North Caucasus region.
