A military doctor is not an easy profession, on his shoulders lies the medical support of the Armed Forces, including medical and preventive work, anti-epidemiological measures, sanitary and hygienic control, medical supply, etc.

The profession of "doctor" has long been respected and revered among the inhabitants of our state. But doctors are different, it depends on the medical specialization of their work. This article will focus on military doctors and the difficulties of this profession.

The specifics of the profession of a military doctor

This profession appeared quite a long time ago, back in the days of Ancient Egypt, that is, as soon as people began to fight, it became necessary to treat wounded soldiers. Therefore, civilian doctors took up the service of military formations, who had to gradually retrain in the military, taking into account the specific features of military service.

There are two main requirements for a modern specialist in this profession:

  1. Medical education.
  2. Officer rank.

But not only an officer can be called a military doctor in the Russian army, but also:

  • ensign (paramedic);
  • sergeant (sanitary instructor);
  • private (nurse).

But only a military officer who has a diploma of medical education (for example, a colonel of the medical service) can hold a position in this specialization.

Military doctors are able to realize their professional abilities in two directions:

  • organizational - this is to a greater extent managerial work, with the help of which the organization of the work of medical centers (including medical companies and service units) is carried out, their duties also include the purchase of medicines and medical preparations;
  • medical - practical treatment of needy patients in military hospitals (these are mainly residents and specialized doctors of a certain specialization).

Both of these areas of this profession have their own nuances, which are honed by a graduate of a military medical university directly at the workplace.

Receiving an appropriate education

Experts say that there are several options for training, as a result of which it becomes possible to get the profession of "military doctor".

  1. Enter one of the medical universities with a military specialization (that is, a medical educational institution should have a military department, for example, Tomsk Medical University) and receive a diploma with a mark on obtaining not only the profession of a doctor, but also an officer rank.
  2. Enter and graduate from a civilian medical school, and then go to contract military service (although this must be done before the age of 35).

So, in our state there is a wonderful educational institution, which just lets out military doctors from its walls. This is the Russian Military Medical Academy. S. M. Kirov (VmedA named after Kirov), which is located in St. Petersburg. Here you can, already acting, determine the direction of this profession by faculties:

  • nautical;
  • flight;
  • land.

The basic training takes six years, after which the student, having passed the appropriate examinations for professional compliance, will receive not only a medical diploma, but also the military rank of lieutenant. Then there is the possibility of additional education - internship.

To become a military doctor, a student will have to make a lot of efforts, because, in addition to the difficulties of mastering medical wisdom, he will also have to get involved in the hardships of service in the Russian army:

  • combat and physical training;
  • barracks position (on the first two courses);
  • compliance with a strict regime;
  • field specialized exercises (conducted after the second year);
  • obligatory wearing of uniform;
  • knowledge of the statute.

Demand and prospects of the profession "military doctor"

Qualified specialists of this profession have always been in great demand, especially during the period of hostilities. In addition, it is also promising, because there is an opportunity for professional career growth. At the same time, you can engage in medical practice or go “into science” (that is, engage in scientific activities).

Also, after the end of the period of the first contract (usually it is concluded for five years), a military doctor can retrain as a civilian doctor. Such retraining is allowed even before the end of the contract period, but at the same time, a monetary compensation payment in the form of a forfeit to the state is stipulated, and this is a decent amount (its size should be judged at least by the cost of the issued clothing allowance, which will have to be reimbursed).

Advantages and disadvantages of the profession "military doctor"

Every profession has its advantages and disadvantages. This also applies to military doctors, who become representatives of both sexes - both men and women.

The main advantages of this specialty attract more and more new recruits to the ranks of professional military doctors. This:

  • prestige;
  • respect;
  • promising career growth;
  • regular improvement of qualification categories on a free basis;
  • government-provided benefits (for example, early retirement);
  • social bonuses in the form of cash bonuses.

But, seduced by honor and high pay for dangerous work, not every military doctor can withstand the "cons" of this profession. Here they are:

  • difficulties with a permanent place of residence, which often has to be changed due to constant moving;
  • alarm calls, regardless of the time of day and working hours;
  • business trips to hot spots where hostilities are taking place;
  • difficult working conditions (especially if the front or the line of fire is close).

Such nuances and costs of such a profession can frighten anyone, but there are people who devote their whole life and strength to this business.

Duties to be performed by a military officer

Even from the very name of this profession, it becomes clear that the main duty of a military doctor is to save lives and treat various diseases of soldiers and conscripts, and in wartime, the wounded.

But that's not all, there are other duties that a military doctor performs, both in peacetime and in military conditions:

  1. Provides medicines and medical supplies to the military unit in which he works.
  2. Performs sanitary and hygienic supervision.
  3. Carries out preventive measures.
  4. Carries out anti-epidemic work.
  5. Supervises medical examinations for professional suitability of soldiers and officers of the military.

A military doctor is one of the oldest professions, the origins of which are known from the papyri of ancient Egypt. This is a specialist in demand by the RF Armed Forces equally in peacetime and in combat operations. Despite the absence of strict criteria for physical fitness, candidates for employment must have high intelligence, psychological and emotional endurance.

The labor contract stipulates that a citizen can be sent to hot spots to fulfill his duties. By signing the contract, the specialist independently agrees with this direction. A doctor cannot refuse a business trip.

Introduction to the topic

  • prevention of diseases of soldiers and mass epidemics;
  • control over the implementation of sanitary standards;
  • provision of medical care;
  • organizing lectures with soldiers on first aid;
  • conducting medical examinations;
  • organizing the evacuation of the wounded from the battlefield;
  • surgical treatment of those injured in combat operations.

In general, we can say that these are both controlling functions, and preventive, and therapeutic.

Military ranks for military medics

As noted above, only the applicant who has the rank of lieutenant can take the position of a military physician. Further, the assignment of military ranks is carried out in accordance with the rules adopted for other categories of the military.

If the applicant for service graduated from a civilian university and completed military service, then the maximum rank that you can count on is sergeant. Regardless of education with such a title, you can take one of the following positions:

  • nurse (nurse);
  • paramedic;
  • orderly

In order to further move up the career ladder, it is necessary to complete education at a special university to obtain the lowest officer rank.

To date, the issue of filling the vacant positions of a military doctor is very relevant. This is due to the fact that 8 years ago there was a wave of reductions in existing staff. Thus, it was planned to reduce funding, instead the problem arose of a lack of specialists for labor.

If you have experience working as a military doctor or you studied at universities in this area, then share it with other users in the "Comments" column.

The Military Medical Academy is the oldest military academy and medical university in the country. It was founded on December 18, 1798 by the Decree of Emperor Paul I and from the moment of its creation it was called the Medical-Surgical Academy.

The history of the Academy for more than two centuries has been immortalized by architectural monuments, buildings, on which the best architects of Russia worked.

Soon after its establishment, the academy was elevated to the rank of "The First Educational Institutions of the Empire" and until 1917 it combined the functions of an educational institution and the Academy of Medical Sciences.
