Reasons for expulsion from university. Expelled from the university: what actions should a student take? I didn’t pass one test, will I be expelled?

Dismissing a student from an educational institution is a complex process. This causes a large number of problems for both the student and the management of the educational institution. There are a variety of reasons why a student may be expelled. This is often due to the student's academic failure, non-payment of fees or lack of attendance. In addition, the student can stop studying at this educational institution on his own initiative. The procedure for expelling a student from a university depends on the specific case.

Why can a student be expelled from a university?

The Federal Law on Expulsion from an Educational Institution states that if a student does not comply with the rules of the university, he has the right to be expelled from the educational institution.

Reasons for deduction:

  • Violation of norms of behavior in an educational institution, as well as failure to comply with general order;
  • Falsified documentation was submitted upon admission;
  • Violation of payment terms for studies. In this case, after the student pays the debt, he has the right to continue his studies;
  • Inappropriate behavior towards other students or teachers;
  • Frequent absenteeism, as well as poor academic performance, are the most common grounds for expulsion;
  • At the end of the academic leave, the student did not show up for classes;
  • Consumption of prohibited foods or drinks on the territory of the educational institution;
  • The student came to the university under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Non-attendance

The legislation of the Russian Federation does not provide for punishment in the form of deductions for non-attendance. However, each educational institution has an internal Charter, which states that absenteeism can be regarded as failure, for which the university has the right to expel. The charter contains information about the acceptable percentage of non-attendance, often from 3 to 5.

It should be noted that if the reason for absenteeism is valid, the student has the opportunity to avoid expulsion. However, he will need to prove this with documentation.

Failure to achieve

Academic failure is a student’s failure to complete the curriculum for passing the exam and passing certifications.

A student is expelled for poor academic performance in the following cases:

  • Did not pass the examination paper in three subjects during the session;
  • If the student does not pass the exam with a positive mark after the second retake;
  • When transferring to another faculty, he failed to pass the required subjects;
  • Failed to repay the debt within the time period specified by the educational institution;
  • Did not pass one of the certification papers;
  • The student was unable to cope with the study plan presented by the university;
  • Failed to complete the practical part of the training and did not submit the required reports on it.

Valid reasons for expulsion from the university

In addition to unexcusable reasons for expulsion, there are also valid ones, which, when expelled, do not affect the reputation of the student and the educational institution.

List of valid reasons for expulsion:

  • Student's wish. If a student has decided that he no longer wants to receive an education, or the need to complete his studies is related to family circumstances, he should fill out an application addressed to the rector;
  • The student was drafted into the army. If a university is implementing a program to gain knowledge in the field of military training, the student has the opportunity to continue receiving education in his specialty, combining the main faculty with military courses. As a result of this, the student receives a rank and is exempt from military service;
  • Transfer of a student to another educational institution. There are situations when a student realizes that he has chosen the wrong profession. As a result, he wants to transfer. To do this, they fill out an application addressed to the rector;
  • Based on medical report. If due to health conditions the student is unable to continue studying. However, this must be confirmed by the conclusion of a medical advisory commission.

Deduction procedure

Deduction procedure:

  • Employees of the faculty dean's office draw up a document indicating the student's desire to stop studying, as well as the reason and date;
  • Next, the order is sent to the rector for signature. This should be done within three days;
  • After this, dean’s office employees must send the report to the HR department;
  • The student of the educational institution must familiarize himself with this document and also sign to confirm familiarization;
  • In addition, the student is required to sign and present to the dean’s office a bypass sheet, the contents of which include the following: library, contract department, dean’s office, methodologist, dormitory commandant. After affixing all the necessary signatures and seals, the student will be able to pick up the originals of their documents.

The deduction procedure is completed by issuing an order. To draw up an order correctly, you need to familiarize yourself with the structure of filling out the document:

  • The full name of the educational institution and location (city) are indicated;
  • Name and serial number of the document;
  • Personal information about the student;
  • Name of the faculty and specialty of the student citizen;
  • The form in which the person received education;
  • Budgetary or contractual basis of training;
  • The main part of the order indicates personal data and course number;
  • The reason on which the student is expelled from the educational institution;
  • The article of local regulations in accordance with which the deduction process is implemented is indicated;
  • At the end of the order, the signatures of the dean of the faculty, the head of the educational department and the vice-rector for educational and organizational affairs are affixed.

How to appeal the rector’s order on expulsion from the university?

There are often situations when illegal expulsion is made against a citizen receiving education at an educational institution. If there are legal grounds, the student has the right to cancel the expulsion order.

Reasons for deduction:

  • Availability of valid reasons for skipping lectures or failing a session;
  • Expulsion in relation to a student who is on sick leave, on maternity leave or during the holidays is unacceptable according to;
  • A citizen undergoing training has the right to appeal against exclusion from an educational institution if a violation of the expulsion procedure is discovered. For example, if a student does not close the session, and a retake guaranteed by law is not provided, he has the right to declare a violation of his rights;
  • The student has the opportunity to challenge the expulsion if the university management did not notify the student of the expulsion;
    It is possible to appeal an illegally issued expulsion order if the citizen’s complaint addressed to the rector was not taken into account;
  • If the deadline during which disciplinary punishment can be applied to the student has been missed. The designated period is one month from the moment the official learned of the fact of the offense.

If one of the specified grounds is present, the student has the right to challenge the exclusion.

This is a procedure that it is better to never go through, but, nevertheless, it is required to be well presented to each student. It should be noted right away that the expulsion of a student is a step-by-step process that must be carried out in accordance with current legislation. When making a decision to expel a student from the ranks of students, the rights and interests of both the citizen and the higher education institution must be taken into account.

The issue of expelling a student at the initiative of the administration of an educational institution is considered by a special educational commission.

There are several reasons why a student may be expelled from a university, which can be divided into two groups:

  • The student’s own desire, which may be caused either by a transfer to another educational institution, or a decision to complete his studies, or other reasons;
  • Initiative of the university management due to failure to implement the curriculum, including low academic performance or failure to eliminate current academic debt; gross violation of the provisions of the charter and internal regulations of the university; low class attendance without good reason; failure to appear for exams without reason. Also, failure to return from academic leave, gross disciplinary violations, as well as, in the case of studying on a commercial basis, arrears in tuition fees or violation of other terms of the contract by the student can serve as a reason for expulsion.

Let's now look at the mandatory procedures for expelling a student at the initiative of the university administration.

When a student is expelled for failure to complete the curriculum or for academic failure at the initial stage, the dean of the faculty prepares a reasoned proposal for the student’s expulsion indicating the reason for expulsion and the date of expulsion, which is signed by the rector (vice-rector) within 3 days and transferred to the student personnel department for issuing an expulsion order. The student must be familiarized with the submission upon signature.

The expulsion of students for violation of duties stipulated by the internal regulations and other gross disciplinary violations is determined by the procedure for applying disciplinary measures to students and removing them from students, adopted on March 15, 2013.

According to this procedure, before applying a disciplinary measure, the university administration must request a written explanation from the student. If after three school days the student has not provided the specified explanation, then a corresponding report is drawn up. It should be noted that a student’s refusal or evasion to provide a written explanation is not an obstacle to his expulsion from the university. The expulsion order contains the following entry: “expelled from the student body (indicate full name), course number, specialty, form of study” and the basis and date of expulsion are stated.

Next, the student should sign the bypass sheet. This will require visiting several services of the educational institution, including the utility block, library, etc. Only by presenting a signed bypass sheet will the student be able to receive back the original documents on basic education (usually a certificate of complete secondary education). The record book is also handed over by the student and, together with an extract from the expulsion order, is stored in the archives of the educational institution.

In addition, a former student can write an application to receive a standard certificate of study at a university (academic certificate), which records the fact of incomplete higher education.

In the event that a student for some reason cannot appear for documents, this can be done by an authorized representative (with a notarized power of attorney) or his legal representative (if the student has not reached the age of majority).

The student has the right to leave the university at his own request. But there are a number of reasons why they may be forced to expel. collected cases when the administration of a Belarusian university, according toArticle 79 of the Education Code,has the right to expel a student against his will.

Low academic performance

Perhaps the most common reason for expulsion from a university. Failed three exams in the session — catch the expulsion notice. The list of academic debts also includes unfinished practice. You can also be expelled from the university due to uncompleted tests: if you did not receive a “pass” mark in at least one of the disciplines of the test session before the start of the first exam, you will not be allowed to take the exam session. The dean's office did not include your name in the list for the third examgoodbye university.

Skipping classes

Frequent absences from lectures, seminars, tests, and laboratories are fraught with expulsion. Say goodbye to the university if you have not appeared within the walls of the educational institution for 30 days without good reason. When there are fewer absences, you will be given the opportunity to make up missed classes. But if so many of them have accumulated that it is impossible to cover absenteeism before the session, get ready to pick up documents from the dean’s office. The teacher has the right not to admit a student to the session without completing the independent work required by the training program.

It is possible that you have to leave the university due to the closure of the university or the loss of its teaching license. If a specialty is closed, students are usually transferred to a similar program. This happened to students of one of the specialties in 2017

Breaking the rules

Every educational institution has its own charter and rules. For gross violations of discipline, the university administration may expel a negligent student. The same applies to behavior in the hostel. Remember that a violent student party or damage to government property can result in problems or expulsion from the university.

Late tuition fees

Paying students also risk expulsion from the university for financial reasons. Late payment is a direct violation of the agreement concluded with the university upon admission. To prevent expulsion, write to the dean’s office in advance asking for a deferment. If you’re really tight on money, take a sabbatical and save up the required amount in a year.

Failure to appear after leaving the army

If you joined the army in the middle of your university studies, your place is retained for another year after discharge. The university has the right to expel you automatically after this period.

Separate rules govern the expulsion of cadets. Studying there is equivalent to service, so these universities adhere to the relevant legislation

You are definitely within your power to retain your place at the university. It is enough not to miss classes, follow the rules of the university, fulfill the requirements of the teacher and prepare for the session. In a word, everything is in your hands!

If the material was useful to you, don’t forget to “like” it on our social networks

Student years are perhaps the most fun and carefree. They are remembered for a lifetime, because it is during this period that a person takes his first independent steps in adulthood, learns something new, and makes new acquaintances. But this is also the most difficult time, because all decisions need to be made independently, problems that arise must be eliminated, and most importantly, you need to be very disciplined.

It is full of temptations that are very difficult not to succumb to, so often for a student everything ends before it even begins, since for misconduct he faces expulsion from the university. As you know, excuses like “I didn’t know”, “I won’t do it again”, etc. will not work. For this reason, every student is simply obliged to understand not only their rights, but also their responsibilities.

Firstly, expulsion from the university is possible at your own request. For example, a student is tired of studying, he realized that he had chosen the completely wrong profession or wants to transfer to another educational institution. If training takes place on a contractual basis, then you can be expelled for any violation of the contract.

Failure to pay tuition can also be a valid reason for a university to remove a student from its ranks. In most cases, universities make concessions to their students by postponing payment deadlines. But only if a sufficiently compelling explanation is provided for the reason why payment cannot be made on time. If all deadlines are ignored, then the educational institution has every right to expel the student.

It also doesn’t hurt to read the university’s charter, since violating its rules may result in expulsion from the university. Many respected institutions, in order to preserve their reputation, expel careless students who behave inappropriately not only within the walls of the educational institution, but also in their free time. Any misconduct is subject to disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion.

Any student can take academic leave. The reason may be pregnancy, illness of parents, the need to earn money to pay for education, etc. So, you need to return from academic leave within the agreed period, since any delays can lead to expulsion. If a student is on a business trip abroad and cannot begin his studies on time, then it is necessary to submit certain documents confirming this fact.

Expulsion from the university is also possible in case of academic debt, if during the session the student did not pass more than three disciplines. One of the most common reasons is the huge number of absences from classes. While enjoying the freedom, a student may not go to class because he overslept, had an unexpected headache, or simply isn’t in the mood. Expulsion from the university is also possible for damage to university property, appearance at the educational institution in a state of gambling, inappropriate behavior in the dormitory, etc.

The procedure for expulsion from a university involves issuing an appropriate order based on the student’s personal statement, if he leaves of his own free will, or on the basis of the dean, which indicates the reason. The student draws up and submits it to the dean's office along with his student ID. This ends his studies at this university.

Everything about expulsion: why they expel, who, when. How to act when you just got admitted so as not to screw up.

In the midst of the session, students begin to be interested in issues related to expulsion. If you came to this article through a search, then 80% percent is that you are a first-year student. I will try below to fully cover the topic and answer the most popular questions regarding expulsion from Russian universities.

First, a few words about expulsion in general, then answers to frequently asked questions. If the article does not answer your question, ask it in the comments.

Russian universities are reluctant to expel . Because here education is a business. Universities can be compared to grocery stores, and we come to buy bread. We are forced to go to stores and buy bread, because without it we will not be very good.

This is true for the country as a whole, but the rule does not apply to the best universities. Due to the fact that these best universities traditionally have a lot of competition and they have no need for money/students. It turns out that students need top universities more than students at these universities. The logic is this: we’ll expel this one, 100 of them will be asked to take his place. If we continue the analogy, then medium/small universities are grocery stores built into the ground floor of your house, and top universities are large supermarkets.

The situation is completely different in regional centers and various non-state universities, which for the most part live on the money of paying students. How do you kick out the one who feeds you? Idk.

And it is not only fee-paying universities that are guilty of reluctance to expel students specifically who cannot cope with the curriculum. State budget universities located in the capitals of small regions are also forced to endure, since, firstly, the best go to Moscow-Kazan, and those who remain either could not enter the above cities due to low Unified State Exam scores, or did not they will take away living in the capital financially, and secondly, again, money.

Will explain: budget universities receive a certain amount for a period of time for EACH budget student . This is in addition to those who study for a fee. The more students, the more money. It's simple. About what exactly they are expelled for is a little lower.

IMMEDIATELY as soon as you arrive, check your attitude towards debtors. It happens that within a university, one faculty treats debtors leniently, while another expels them from right to left.

Why can they be expelled from the university?

1) Failure to follow the curriculum.

The most common reason is expulsion from the university for poor academic performance. Expelled for not passing tests/exams on time.

Can they be expelled from the university for debt?

How many debts are deducted?

Depends heavily on the university. A friend of mine, a student at ITMO, had half his group expelled after the first session. ITMO is one of the “top” universities.

Can they deduct for 1 debt?

That same friend was expelled for 1 debt) But, as a rule, if you study at medium-sized universities and those that I mentioned above, there is nothing to worry about for some time after the end of the session.

Do they deduct from paid?

You have to try hard to get kicked off the scarf. With all this, if the banks are confused more than usual, then anything can happen.

2) Damage to university property, other offenses

No comments, everything is clear.

Conclusion: break through the attitude of senior students to debtors and act according to the situation. If, knowing that they are really strict, you are more lazy than necessary, then the responsibility for the consequences is entirely yours.
