Book Description

We live in the era of the second humanity.

One was before us.

And there will be another after us.

In Antarctica, paleontologist Charles Wells, along with his expedition, discover the remains of skeletons at the bottom of an underground lake that belonged to people whose height reached 17 m.

In Paris, his son David Wells presents his project on the reduction of human height and receives a grant from the Future of Human Evolution program.

Charles discovered ancient humanity. David thinks about the future of man. But both of them are still very far from understanding what is really happening.

And only with the help of Aurora Kammerer, who studies the civilization of the Amazons, will it be possible to discover an amazing secret, set up an amazing experiment and forever change the fate of future generations.

2 years of work.

20 years after the epic "Ants".

An epic new saga with ants and Atlantis and new ideas and a new universe.

New characters require a lot of space, and they have not yet revealed all their secrets.

I hope that new world and the new humanity that inhabits it will please you as much as I like them.

To be continued.

Standing in front of this book in the store, I broke down for a long time whether to buy it or not - is it worth the price or not. This book has become another birthday present for me - a thing that seems to be unnecessary, but I won’t dare to go broke on it myself, it’s too expensive for such insignificance.

Werber's first books were given to me for my birthday exactly 6 years ago, in paperback At that time he was still little known in our house. I remember all my emotions after reading the first books (later I bought others), because the library didn’t have them then, and the author’s style and the themes of the books made a whole revolution in my still young head. I want to re-read my thick "white shelf" of completely worn books, because they were in the hands of a dozen people after me. Just the same - I gave people enlightenment, haha. In fact, I still like them - there are things in them that are catchy, despite the public baptism of the whole Werber as "pop". I fell for this mainstream from the doorway. Many years later, I still believe that Uncle Werber is capable of writing something really good. I'm probably naive. It was easy and pleasant for me to read about micro-people, honestly, but, alas, it did not cause any special emotions in me. Or rather, no goosebumps at all. Werber is so recognizable here, so predictable that it's time to cry. If you haven't read it before, don't. First, read everything that was BEFORE. And then this one. Otherwise, you will not be interested at all further. And now I'm just not interested. There was a sort of "Hollywood" - "to be continued." Of course, "to be continued" was also in other books, but each was complete, self-sufficient, they could be read in any quantity and order - and it was interesting, exciting, sleepless. "Third Humanity" reminded the pilot episode of the next series. So I'm waiting for a few "empty" episodes to follow in order to dilute the story. Everything that was voiced in the book can be reduced to a number of familiar definitions - a tree with branches of the future, ants and an encyclopedia ... I love it in separate books and separate concepts, but when it is attracted to each other and boiled in one large cauldron, turns out tasteless. Or I'm not a foodie. There are no more curious characters here that you will choose as "your own" - they are all equally clumsy, written off from typical, classic images - "a typical politician", "a typical woman with a military bearing", "a typical doctor with a purchased diploma". "Intrigue" was splashed into the cauldron - from the first pages the author is trying to "cross" a lesbian and a short man - will something come of this? It also smells like Hollywood ... Bottom line: I bought it in vain, I should have read it in the electronic version. If I read other books in this series, then only on the reading room. I expected more, or I'm just shitting - I still misunderstood. Maybe one of the connoisseurs needs paper, m?)

I’ll probably wait a little longer, suddenly Uncle Werber will be covered again and he will write something again that will give me goosebumps.)

Warning

The action of this story takes place in time, not absolute, but relative. From the moment you start reading the novel, and until it ends, exactly ten years will pass - day by day.

* * *

Everything is in the process of never-ending evolution.

But it also happens that changes suddenly occur faster, more suddenly and more dramatically.

A small bud turns into a lush flower. The caterpillar gets rid of its dense, impenetrable shell and reincarnates into an airy, multi-colored butterfly.

A teenager becomes an adult.

A tribe that lived in fear, selfishness, violence and cruelty acquires the features of a conscious, cohesive civilization.

Such metamorphoses often occur convulsively, convulsively and painfully.

And upon their completion, only an empty shell remains, clinging to a tree branch, painful memories inspired by yellowed photographs, dramas included in historical chronicles, ruins and museums - the mortal remains of the old world.

Transformed, you can fly up to the sun to dry your new wings.

At the same time, as the Age of Change draws nearer, there are forces that seek to thwart it. This is the result of those who are afraid of the new and the unknown, preferring stagnation and even setbacks. The opposition of these forces cannot be underestimated.

Because sometimes they win. Because compared to the forces of progress, they are stronger, more stable and… more powerful.

The desire to stay in the old world brings peace. The fear of moving forward is inherent in man from birth. But, refusing to change, the body falls into decay, suffocates, loses the ability to realize its true potential.

When a person manages to expand his horizons and look as far as possible in time and space, he, quite naturally, begins to strive for changes - both his own and those that happen to others.

The era of blindness

1

Are people able to develop?

Sometimes they make me anxious.

Should I help them, or should I leave them to their intended fate?

But I can't leave them, because I have one great project for them.

I must choose the most fearless and imaginative ones. Two people will be enough to carry the rest along. But how to find them, because there are so many people ...

And if I make a mistake, if I get mediocrity? I know how much trouble they can create.

More powerful than usual.

They don't even realize the destruction it has caused.

And then they are surprised when I respond to their violence.

EMERGENCY NEWS. Today at 09:23 the continental platform of the Indian Ocean floor began to crack. On land collision sites earth's crust resulted in an earthquake measuring 9.1 on the Richter scale. The tremors were followed by a thirty-meter wave that covered the coast ten kilometers inland. We contacted our special correspondent Georges Charat:

- Georges, you saw everything with your own eyes. Tell me what happened!

– I watched this drama from a helicopter. It was as if a monstrous water monster attacked the Pakistani coast. A dark green wall covered in silvery foam crashed into Karachi, Pakistan's business capital, in a violent torrent, sweeping large buildings and small houses to the ground as if they were papier-mâché. Lucien, it was truly a terrible sight. Residents of the city ran out into the streets and rushed to the cars. But they failed to leave - the cars were stuck in traffic jams. The drivers and passengers left the useless iron boxes and took off running. Columns of fugitives with suitcases and children flowed between the motionless cars. But nothing could stop the squall of water, it was inexorably advancing. Thousands of people were overtaken, crushed and drowned. Cars floating on the surface collided with circling boats, mangled buses, mutilated carriages, bent lampposts, pieces of roofs. Karachi is flooded with dirty water.

- Thank you, Georges. I have just been informed that international rescue teams are being formed to help the victims. According to official Pakistani sources, the number of victims has already reached ten ... no, twenty thousand people. We will keep you updated.

Well, everything worked out.

I don't get tired of exercising.

But the accuracy still leaves much to be desired. I was aiming for a completely different region.

It was necessary to strike northwest, closer to the place where they staged an underground nuclear explosion.

Anyway. I hope this got them thinking.

Maybe I'm being too hard on them?

I must choose two and inspire my great project.

But how to find them in this swarming mass of people? I need to relax, rest and forget for a while about the mission that I have to entrust to a few representatives of humanity.

But what is it? I feel some tingling around the South Pole. Are they already trying to get revenge?

No. They do not even realize that I am a living organism, and, therefore, it cannot even occur to them to punish me.

Antarctic expedition

The tungsten alloy head pierced the hard crust. Overcoming resistance, the drill entered the ground like a screwdriver into soft wood.

On the surface, in the frozen white hell of Antarctica, around a ten-meter tower, under the gusts of a howling wind, stood three scientists from the expedition of Charles Wells.

Engines creaked and lifted heavy steel drill pipes up through all the sedimentary layers of the soil.

The results of the first measurements appeared on the screens. At a depth of 3623 meters, an empty space was discovered.

Under the indifferent gazes of the penguins, three people dismantled the drill, dismantled the structure and bent over the gaping failure. The tungsten head punched a hole a meter in diameter, just enough for the scientists to crawl through.

Throwing down long ladders of flexible steel cables, researchers in thick orange jackets began to descend into the darkness.

In the white light of large electric lamps, mixed with the yellow beams of helmet-mounted lanterns, the belly of the Earth appeared before them - shimmering winding tunnels.

Two of the three figures descending into the darkness were paleontologists. They arrived here to test the hypothesis of Professor Charles Wells, after whom the expedition was named. Wells believed that once the climate on south pole was much softer and forests grew here, in which dinosaurs may have lived.

This hypothesis was also confirmed by the fact that under the ice a lake was discovered two hundred kilometers long, fifty wide and three kilometers deep. In 1980, the Radarsat satellite discovered it near the Russian polar station Vostok. Later, in February 2012, one of the Russian probes managed to break through to the very lake, but through a hole with a diameter of only a few centimeters, only a few samples of rock and ice were able to rise to the surface.

Today, the tunnel was wide enough for three people to climb down.

Logically, Professor Wells believed that if life was once in full swing in Antarctica, then traces of it must have been preserved in the lake.

Bernard Werber is a popular contemporary French writer. This author took up the literary field at the age of seven. It is noteworthy that the writer did not go to study as a philologist or literary critic. He chose a slightly different path for himself. At the university, he diligently studied jurisprudence, specialized in forensic science. It was not a random choice. Bernard Werber, through jurisprudence, was looking for topics for his future detectives. In particular, for the novel "The Third Humanity". And he did it. Later, the future writer entered higher school journalism (it was 1982). Around the same time, the writer became seriously interested in the literary works of Isaac Asimov, Philip Dick and Frank Herbert. It was this powerful literary “troika” that helped Bernard Werber form his worldview. Thus was born a unique author's Werberian style, which combined philosophical essays, adventure novels and science fiction. Having diligently “prepared”, Bernard Werber began to write his amazing novels.
