Planet Earth. View from orbit.

July 6 at 16:00 The Museum of Cosmonautics will open an exhibition of photographs by Russian cosmonauts dedicated to environmental problems.

Scientific and technological progress has posed a number of very complex problems for humanity, which have become so large-scale that it is no longer possible to ignore them. Among them, a special place is occupied by the relationship between man and the environment. Under the influence of human change environment have acquired a global character: the drying of the seas and lakes, the melting of glaciers and the reduction of the ice cover of the oceans, forest fires and oil spills.

Exhibition “Planet Earth. A View from Orbit” is dedicated to the Year of Ecology and is dedicated to the exploration of the Earth from space. Space photography makes it possible to assess the scale of changes in the global ecosystem of the Earth and conduct their constant monitoring. It has been regularly conducted for more than a dozen years, both by automated satellites and by astronauts from the Earth's orbit.

Exhibition “Planet Earth. View from orbit” presents photographs of cosmonauts F.N. Yurchikhina, V.G. Korzun, S.N. Ryazansky, O.G. Artemyev, taken from the International Space Station, reflecting ecological problems Earth.

A tiny blue dot in dark space - such our planet was photographed by the Cassini spacecraft from the orbit of Saturn on July 19, 2013. Then for the first time we got the opportunity to see the "portrait" of the Earth from distant frontiers solar system where no one has ever been before.

But the most unusual and breathtaking view opens up close, and one can only envy the inhabitants of the International Space Station, who daily look at the Earth "through the eyes of aliens." Although… and you have a chance - thanks to the amazing photos and videos that astronauts share on social networks.

1. Irrigation of land in the Midwest of the United States.“It seems that this is where the Pacman game was invented,” Alexander Gerst, a German astronaut and ISS flight engineer, wrote on Facebook on August 19, 2014.

2. And here's what it looks like irrigation system in the sahara desert:

3. “These are not clouds, but the real art of the Earth. Spirals are Pacific currents in the bright light of the sun,” American astronaut Reed Wiseman explained on Twitter on August 16.

4. Cool whirlwinds off the coast of England:

5. Buenos Aires. Can you find the airport?

6. “My favorite view from space: sunrise over the ocean". Wiseman, September 2nd.

7. "Floating across the ocean radiance. At some moments, it seems that the Earth is actually a living being.” Gerst, September 3rd.

8. And this is what it looks like polar lights combined with the dawn of the sun:

9. Simply astonishing, this Earth's atmosphere taken at night with a 3 second exposure.

10. Here is the contrast! A crescent of natural light, where it is still day on Earth, and a night side immersed in darkness with artificial lighting of large cities. The picture was taken by the European spacecraft Rosetta.

11. View of the earth from lunar orbit. Photo from the Japanese lunar satellite "Kaguya", 2007.

12. “If you saw such a planet from space, would you think that there is life on it?” asks Alexander Gerst. Users have identified it as part of the Sahara in Chad.

13. And here is a video shot by ISS flight engineers Mike Hopkins and Richard Mastracchio. It was posted to YouTube on September 3, 2014. The station flies over Sicily and Mount Etna, gradually the familiar outlines of the Italian "boot" appear in the frame. You can also see Greece and various US cities, including San Francisco with the Golden Gate Bridge, Houston, Chicago on the coast of Lake Michigan, the country's largest, and New York.

Some fragments of their off-screen comments sound "unearthly" touching.

"OK. It must be Houston. Looks like it's a great day! I spoke to the house about 15 minutes ago, my wife said that they have beautiful weather down there.

“This is New York City. Apparently they have a lot of snow there. And a clear day. It must be very cold."

On our website, everyone has the opportunity to watch live online broadcast from the ISS (International Space Station) absolutely free. A high-quality webcam allows you to enjoy the amazing beauty of the planet Earth in HD format, which has been broadcasting video from orbit in real time for many years.

Filming is carried out from the ISS, which is constantly in motion, flying in orbit. NASA employees, who are on board, together with representatives of the space industry of other countries, daily observe from the window, studying the features of space.

ISS - artificial satellite Earth, carrying out from time to time docking with other spacecraft and stations for the transfer of research materials and the replacement of personnel. With the help of the NASA webcam, you can see amazing space landscapes in space at this very moment.

Earth view from space in real time

Every day different events take place on our planet. natural character, therefore, from the ISS online you can see: lightning strikes and hurricanes, northern lights, the process of tsunami occurrence and its movement, amazing night landscapes of large cities, sunset and sunrise, lava ejection by volcanoes, falling celestial bodies. In addition, one can observe a fascinating picture of the work of astronauts in open space, feel through the screen those extraordinary emotions that they experience. Almost every one of us in childhood dreamed of becoming an astronaut, but life has presented us with a different path. Perhaps that is why for all the inhabitants of the Earth they created the opportunity to fulfill their little dream through the Internet - to travel online with the International space station in orbit.
