Cases of bygone days, legends of antiquity deep(meaning ) - about events from the distant past, with a touch of their improbability.

Tradition- Passing from mouth to mouth, from generation to generation, a story about the past, a legend. Folk legend. family tradition. (Dictionary Russian language (1992), N. Yu. Shvedova)

These are the first words of the Song of the First Poem "" (1815 - 1820) by the Russian poet (1799 - 1837). The phrase is then repeated before the epilogue.

The phrase is a translation of Ossian's poem "Carton" by the English writer James Macpherson (1736 - 1796):

"A tale of the times of old!..

The deeds of days of other years!.."

The expression "Cases of bygone days" became the epigraph to the play (1842) by the Russian writer (1809 - 1852). The essence of the plot of this work is that the cheater, who won a large amount for those times (80 thousand rubles), was himself deceived by his colleagues.

Examples

"Deeds of bygone days..."— Soviet Feature Film, film studio "Lenfilm", 1972, director Vladimir Shredel (based on the story "In the exclusion zone" by Anatoly Bezuglov and Yuri Klarov).

"These gentlemen, for the beauty of the style, were also called sideburners. ( Things of bygone days, as you will see.)"

(1801 - 1872)

(1863 - 1866), for the word "Old":

"The elder, in the form of a noun, is the largest, the big, the foreman, the chief, more so, the elder, -shay. As the elders put it, the suburbs will be on that. , the past, the past, what was and has passed, old customs, antiquities, ancient things. The affairs of bygone days, the legend of antiquity deep! Either antiquity, or deed, Kirsha. It smells old in here. Live in the old days, and look for bread on the side. He lives in his father's antiquity, heritage, patrimony.
