» Puss in Boots. Fairy tale by Charles Perrault

a miller left his three sons a small inheritance - a mill, a donkey and a cat. The brothers immediately divided the father's inheritance: the eldest took a mill, the middle one took a donkey, and the youngest was given a cat.

The younger brother was very sad that he had inherited such a bad inheritance.

Brothers can honestly earn a piece of bread for themselves if they live together, he said. - And when I eat my cat and sew mittens out of his skin, I will have to die of hunger.

The cat heard these words, but was not offended.

Do not grieve, master, - he said gravely and seriously, - give me better a bag and a pair of boots, so that it would be more convenient to walk through the bushes. You will see then that you have not received such a bad inheritance as you think.

The owner of the Cat did not really believe his words. But I remembered about his various tricks and thought: “Maybe the Cat will really help me in some way!”

As soon as the Cat received the boots from the owner, he deftly put them on. Then he put cabbage in a sack, threw the sack over his back, and went into the forest, where there were many rabbits.

He came into the forest, hid behind the bushes and began to wait for some young, stupid rabbit to poke his head into a sack for cabbage.

Before he had time to hide, he immediately got lucky: a young, trusting rabbit climbed into the bag. The cat quickly rushed to the bag and tightly tightened the strings.

Very proud that the hunt was so successful, the Cat went to the palace and asked to be admitted to the king.

He was taken into the royal chambers. Entering there, the Cat bowed low to the king and said:
- great king! The Marquis of Carabas (so the Cat took it into his head to call his master) ordered me to bring you this rabbit as a gift.

Tell your master, the king replied, that I am very pleased with his gift and thank him.

The cat bowed and left the palace. On another occasion, he hid in a field among the ears of wheat and opened a bag of bait. When two partridges got into the bag, the Cat immediately carried the partridges to the king. The king accepted the partridges with pleasure and ordered the Cat to be treated with wine.

So for two or three months in a row, the Cat carried various game to the king on behalf of the Marquis of Carabas. One day, the Cat learned that the king was going to ride along the river bank in a carriage for a walk with his daughter, the most beautiful princess in the world.

He said to his master:
- If you listen to me, you will be happy all your life. Go and bathe in the river to-day in the place which I will indicate, and I will arrange the rest myself!

The owner obeyed the Cat and went to the river, although he did not understand what good it would be for him.

While he was bathing, the king rode along the shore.
The cat was already waiting for him, and as soon as the carriage approached, he shouted with all his might:

Help! Help! The Marquis of Carabas is sinking!

The king heard a cry and looked out of the carriage. He recognized the Cat, who had already brought him game so many times, and ordered his servants to run quickly to the aid of the Marquis of Carabas.

While the marquis was being dragged out of the river, the Cat went up to the carriage and told the king that when the marquis was bathing, the thieves took away all his clothes, even though he was the Cat, he called for help with all his might and shouted loudly: “Thieves! The thieves!"
But in fact, the rogue himself hid his master's clothes under a large stone.

The king ordered the courtiers to immediately bring to the Marquis of Carabas one of his best outfits.

When the marquis was dressed, the king began to talk to him affectionately, then invited him to sit in the carriage and take a ride.

The miller's son was slender and handsome. In luxurious royal attire, he became even more beautiful, and the young princess immediately fell in love with him without a memory.

The cat was delighted that everything turned out the way he planned. He ran ahead of the carriage and, when he saw mowers in the meadow, he shouted to them:

Hey mowers! If you do not tell the king that this meadow belongs to the Marquis of Carabas, you will all be cut into small pieces immediately!

When the carriage drove up to the meadow, the king actually asked the mowers whose meadow they were mowing.

Oh, marquis, what a beautiful meadow you have! - said the king.

Indeed, my lord! replied the Marquis. - Every year there is a wonderful hayfield in this meadow.

And the Cat again ran forward, saw the reapers and shouted to them:

Hey reapers! If you do not tell the king that all these fields belong to the Marquis of Carabas, you will all be chopped into small pieces!

Passing by the fields, the king wanted to know who these fields belonged to.

Lord Marquis Carabas! - answered the reapers.
The king again praised the marquis' possessions. And the Cat kept running ahead of the carriage and ordered everyone he met to say the same thing. And the king could not marvel at the wealth of the Marquis of Carabas.

The tale is a lie, but there is a hint in it, a good lesson for the good fellow.

Puss in Boots
Fairy tale with pictures by Charles Perrault

The miller had three sons, and, dying, he left them only a mill, a donkey and a cat.

The brothers divided their father's property among themselves without a judge and a notary, who would have quickly swallowed all their poor inheritance.

The eldest got the mill. Middle - donkey. And the youngest had to take a cat.

The poor fellow could not console himself for a long time, having received such a miserable share of the inheritance.

Brothers, he said, can honestly earn their living if they stick together. And what will happen to me after I eat my cat and make a muff out of his skin? Just starve to death!

The cat heard these words, but did not show it, but said calmly and judiciously:

Don't worry, master. Give me a bag and order a pair of boots to make it easier to wander through the bushes, and you will see for yourself that you have not been offended as much as you now think.

The owner of the cat himself did not know whether to believe it or not, but he well remembered what tricks the cat used when he hunted rats and mice, how cleverly he pretended to be dead, either hanging on his hind legs, or burrowing almost headlong into flour. Who knows, maybe he really will help in some way in trouble!

As soon as the cat got everything he needed, he quickly put on his shoes, valiantly stamped his feet, threw the bag over his shoulder and, holding it by the laces with his front paws, walked into the reserved forest, where there were many rabbits. And in the bag he had bran and rabbit cabbage.

Stretched out on the grass and pretending to be dead, he began to wait until some inexperienced rabbit, who had not yet had time to experience in his own skin how evil and insidious the world was, would climb into the bag to feast on the treats reserved for him.

He did not have to wait long: some young, trusting simpleton rabbit immediately jumped into his bag. Without thinking twice, the cat tightened the shoelaces, and the stupid rabbit was trapped.

After that, proud of his prey, the cat went straight to the palace and asked to be welcomed by the king. He was taken into the royal chambers.

He gave his majesty a respectful bow and said:

Your majesty, here is a rabbit from the forests of the Marquis de Carabas (he invented such a name for his master). My master ordered me to present you with this modest gift.

“Thank your master,” replied the king, “and tell him that he has given me great pleasure.

A few days later, the cat went to the field and there, hiding among the ears, again opened his bag.

This time two partridges fell into his trap. He quickly tightened the laces and carried both to the king.

The king willingly accepted this gift and ordered to give the cat for tea.

So two or three months passed. The cat now and then brought game to the king, as if hunted by his master, the Marquis de Carabas.

And then one day the cat found out that the king, together with his daughter, the most beautiful princess in the world, was going to take a carriage ride along the river bank.

The cat immediately ran to his marquis:

Are you willing to take my advice? he asked his master. - In this case, happiness is in our hands. All that is required of you is to go swimming in the river, where I will show you. Leave the rest to me.

The Marquis de Carabas obediently did everything that the cat advised him, although he had no idea what it was for.

While he was bathing, the cat hid the master's dress under a large stone.

Soon the royal carriage drove to the river bank.

The cat rushed with all his might and screamed at the top of his lungs:

Here, here! Help! The Marquis de Carabas is drowning!

The king heard this cry, opened the door of the carriage ajar, and, recognizing the cat that had so many times brought him game as a gift, immediately sent his guards to rescue the Marquis de Carabas.

While the poor marquis was being pulled out of the water, the cat managed to tell the king that thieves stole everything from the master while bathing.

The king immediately ordered his courtiers to bring for the Marquis de Carabas one of the best outfits of the royal wardrobe.

The outfit turned out to be both on time and to the face, and since the marquis was already small at least somewhere - handsome and stately, then, having dressed up, he, of course, became even better, and the royal daughter, looking at him, found that he just to her taste.

When the Marquis de Carabas cast two or three glances in her direction, very respectful and at the same time tender, she fell in love with him without memory.

Her father, the young Marquis, also fell in love. The king was very affectionate with him and even invited him to sit in a carriage and take part in a walk.

The cat was delighted that everything was going like clockwork, and merrily ran in front of the carriage.

On the way, he saw peasants cutting hay in the meadow.

Hey, good people, - he shouted as he ran, - if you do not tell the king that this meadow belongs to the Marquis de Carabas, you will all be chopped into pieces, like stuffing for a pie! So know!

Just then the royal carriage drove up, and the king asked, looking out of the window:

Whose meadow are you mowing?

However, Marquis, you have a glorious estate here! - said the king.

Yes, sir, this meadow produces excellent hay every year, - the marquis answered modestly.

Meanwhile, the cat ran on and on until he saw reapers working in the field along the way.

Hey, good people, - he shouted, - if you do not tell the king that all these breads belong to the Marquis de Carabas, then know that you will all be chopped into pieces, like stuffing for a pie!

A minute later, the king drove up to the reapers and wanted to know whose fields they were reaping.

The fields of the Marquis de Carabas, the reapers answered.

And the king again rejoiced for the marquis.

And the cat kept running forward and ordered everyone who met him to say the same thing: “This is the house of the Marquis de Carabas”, “this is the mill of the Marquis de Carabas”, “this is the garden of the Marquis de Carabas”.

The king could not marvel at the wealth of the young marquis.

And finally, the cat ran to the gates of a beautiful castle. There lived a very rich man-eating giant. No one in the world has ever seen a giant richer than this. All the lands through which the royal carriage passed were in his possession.

The cat found out in advance what kind of giant it was, what his strength was, and asked to be allowed to see the owner. He, they say, cannot and does not want to pass by without paying his respects.

The ogre received him with all the courtesy that an ogre is capable of after a hearty meal, and offered to rest.

I was assured, - said the cat, - that you can turn into any animal. Well, for example, you seem to be able to turn into a lion or an elephant ...

Can! - barked the giant. - And to prove it, I will immediately become a lion! Look!

The cat was so frightened when he saw a lion in front of him that in an instant he climbed up the drainpipe to the roof, although it was difficult and even dangerous, because it is not so easy to walk on the tiles in boots.

Only when the giant again assumed his former appearance, the cat descended from the roof and confessed to the owner that he almost died of fear.

And they assured me, - he said, - but I just can’t believe this, that you supposedly know how to turn into even the smallest animals. Well, for example, to become a rat or even a mouse. I must tell you the truth that I think it is absolutely impossible.

Ah, that's how! Impossible? - asked the giant. - Well, look!

And at the same moment he turned into a mouse. The mouse nimbly ran across the floor, but the cat chased after it and swallowed it at once.

Meanwhile, the king, passing by, noticed a beautiful castle on the way and wished to enter there.

The cat heard the wheels of the royal carriage rattle on the drawbridge, and, running out to meet him, he said to the king:

Welcome to the castle of the Marquis de Carabas, Your Majesty! Welcome!

How, Mr. Marquis?! exclaimed the king. Is this castle yours too? It is impossible to imagine anything more beautiful than this courtyard and the buildings around. Yes, this is a real palace! Let's see what it's like inside, if you don't mind.

The marquis extended his hand to the beautiful princess and led her after the king, who, as expected, was leading the way.

All three of them entered the great hall, where a splendid supper was prepared.

Just on this day, the ogre invited his friends to his place, but they did not dare to come, having learned that the king was visiting the castle.

The king was fascinated by the virtues of Monsieur the Marquis de Carabas almost as much as his daughter, who was simply crazy about the Marquis.

In addition, his Majesty could not, of course, but appreciate the wonderful possessions of the marquis and, having drained five or six goblets, said:

If you want to be my son-in-law, Monsieur Marquis, it's up to you. And I agree.

The marquis thanked the king with a respectful bow for the honor done to him, and on the same day he married the princess.

And the cat became a nobleman and since then hunted mice only occasionally - for his own pleasure.

Dishes for children to enjoy

Step 1.
We fold a sheet of thick white paper (whatman paper) or thin white cardboard in half. If the paper is thin, you can fold it in two layers.

Step 2
We lay the chicken egg in cold water, bring to a boil and cook from boiling for 8-10 minutes. Then briefly rinse cold water and peel while it is hot (a cold egg is not good).
Step 3
We place a hot egg in a folded sheet of paper, put a wooden stick on top, for example, a round pencil (see photo) and clamp the design with an elastic band.

Step 4
We leave to stand for 10-15 minutes. Ready!

We get an egg.

Cut in half and use to decorate dishes.

Cut out a seed from a thin slice of bread.
Then, in this mold, we fry the fried eggs in oil on a shortbread and put them on a cut out slice of bread.
Bread can be pre-fried in butter, turning it into a hot toast.
Serve immediately on the table.

Fried eggs in a mold.

Roasting heart mold.
On sale there are special molds for scrambled eggs in the form of a heart, a flower, etc.
If such a mold is not at hand, it is very simple to make it with the help of scissors from a suitable tin can.

Flower mold for frying.

Fried omelet with vegetables in a mold.
These omelettes can be used to decorate salads, pate, hot mashed potatoes, porridge, etc.

Cm. .

Fried fried eggs in a circle cut from sweet pepper can be served as a hot appetizer or used to decorate different dishes.

Cut the sausage in half lengthwise, leaving one end connected. We roll the resulting halves connected on one side into a ring and fasten with a wooden toothpick, as shown in the photo.
Place in a hot oiled pan and fry on one side.
Turn over, drive an egg into the middle and fry until the fried eggs are cooked.

We remove the toothpick and use it for garnishing various dishes.

When preparing scrambled eggs, rinse the shells and save. Then we paint in different colors. How to paint - see page.
We fill the shells with earth and germinate various seeds in them.

Candles in eggshells painted in different colors.

With curly molds or a knife, using a stencil cut out of whatman paper, we cut out various figures (for example, hearts) from slices of bread.
If desired, these slices can be fried in oil and allowed to cool.
Brush the top and sides of the bread slices with butter. Roll the sides abundantly in finely chopped greens.
Put a little caviar on top of the oil, place a thin slice of lemon, plant a rosette from the oil and decorate with a green leaf.
To design figured sandwiches, you can use all sorts of other products to taste and availability.

Mass composition options for balls:
1) Grated cheese + mayonnaise or thick sour cream.
2) Mashed feta cheese in half with cottage cheese.
The mass can be seasoned to taste, for example, crushed garlic.
All knead well until plasticity.
Roll the balls after wetting your hands in cold water.
A nut can be placed inside each ball.
Then bread some of the balls in sesame seeds, some in sweet paprika, and some in very finely chopped dill.
ADVICE. For very fine cutting, after rinsing, dill should be allowed to dry well - dried dill is easily chopped with a knife and sticks well to cheese balls.

There lived a miller. Lived, lived and died. After him there was a mill, a donkey and a cat: he only had good things, only his three sons inherited. The sons did not argue for a long time, they quickly divided the inheritance: the eldest took a mill for himself, the middle one took a donkey, and the youngest got a cat.

So the younger one went and grieves. - On what to me, - speaks, - a cat! What should I do with it? Is it possible to eat it and sew a hat from the skin, that's all. And then go hungry again. It’s good for the brothers, they will be fed. What should I do? The cat listened, listened, and said:

Do not grieve, - he says, - the owner, I will help you out of trouble. Sew me just a bag and a pair of boots, and don't worry about anything. Melnikov's son thinks to himself: - Well, he thinks it won't get worse, let him try his luck. No wonder he is such a master at catching mice and rats. Might come up with something. I got him a handbag and a pair of boots and brought him: - On, - he says, - equip yourself.

The cat quickly put on his shoes, ran into the pantry, stole some tidbit there, put it in a bag, threw it over his shoulders and went into the forest. In the forest he took off his bag, put it beside him, he lay down under a tree, stretched out as if dead and lies. Here the rabbit smelled a tidbit and reached into the bag. Here the cat nimbly jumped to his feet, tightened the cord of the bag, put it on his shoulders and went to the royal court, to the king himself. - Let me go, - he says, - to the master; I was sent from Prince Karabas.

They let him go. He took a rabbit out of his bag, gave it to the king and said: - Here, - he says, - Prince Karabas sent a present to your Majesty. The king thanked him, ordered him to give him a couple of hares of his hunt and let him go home. The cat carried the hares to the owner, and he again went into the forest. He stretched out there under a tree, and put his bag next to him. Two partridges smelled a tidbit, flew to the ground and climbed into the bag. The cat quickly jumped to his feet, tightened the bag, put it on his shoulders and carried it to the royal court. I gave a couple of partridges to the king. The king brought him a glass of vodka, ordered him to give him a pair of geese from the poultry yard and let him go home. The cat carried the geese to his master and went hunting again. So he caught either a hazel grouse or a black grouse and took everything to the royal court. He heard that the king was going to go with the queen to visit a neighbor, and he said to the owner: - You go, - he says, - to swim in the river, and I will play such a thing that it will be good for you, and it’s not bad for me either. Melnikov, the youngest son, obeyed the cat, went to the river, undressed and got into it up to his throat. And the cat hid all his clothes and guards. As he saw the carriage with the king and the queen, he shouted with all his might:

Oh, fathers, help! My master drowned. The king looked out of the window, recognized the cat. - But this - he says - must be Prince Karabas drowning. And he ordered the servants to pull him out. The servants of Melnikov's son were pulled out of the water, they began to look everywhere for his dress, it was nowhere to be found. - It must be, - says the cat, - someone stole it, as my master was drowning.

The king detached a horse, ordered his dress to be brought. They brought a dress, dressed Melnikov's son and put him in a carriage with the master. The millers' son is sitting and admiring the princess, and the princess is looking at him.

And they go. And the cat runs ahead, like a messenger. He saw that the people were mowing the grass in the meadow, and he shouted to them with all his might: - There your new master is coming. If you do not say everything with one voice that this is the meadow of Prince Karabas, he will take off your heads. Here a carriage drove up to the meadow, the king asks: -Whose meadow is this? The men were frightened and all shouted with one voice:

Prince of Carabas. They go further, and the cat runs ahead; I saw - the people cleans the rye, and shouts with all their might: - Hey, you! There your new master is coming. If you do not say that this is the rye of Prince Karabas, he will take off your heads. The carriage drove up to the field, the king asked: - Whose field is this? And the men were frightened and shouted at once:

Prince of Carabas. And wherever they drive up, whoever they ask, everything is Prince Karabas. The king was surprised: - What are you, - he says, - rich! A magnificent palace appeared in the distance. And the cannibal lived in the palace: he had meadows and those fields.

The cat ran forward, went up to the palace to the cannibal, bowed low to him and said: “My gentlemen,” he says, “Prince Karabas with his wife and father-in-law, the king, are visiting your lordship. Order, - he says, - to accept.

The ogre was glad that he would have something to eat, and ordered the servants to quickly prepare everything in order to treat the guests properly. And he sat down to talk with the cat. The cat says: - I dare, - he says, - to ask your lordship: I heard, - he says, - that you can turn into the most fierce beast, even if there is an elephant or a lion. Is it really true, he says? The cannibal was delighted that he was praised: - Look, he says. He took it and turned into a lion. The cat did not even see the light, he was so frightened, he even wanted to run to the roof.

And the lion turned back into a cannibal and laughs at the cat. The cat recovered a little, and asks:

They also told me that you can turn into even the smallest animal, at least a rat or a mouse. There's just something I don't believe. Is that true as well? - You don't believe that either? - says the cannibal. - Well, look. Turned into a mouse and let's run around the floor. The cat squinted, stretched, and how it rushes at the mouse - and ate it. Then he heard the sound of wheels, ran out onto the porch, bowed low and shouted from the porch:

Please, - he says, - to the palace to my master, to Prince Karabas. The king was even more surprised: - Is this yours, - he says, - the palace? And the miller's son gave his hand to the princess and leads her with his father to the porch, to the palace.

"Cinderella"

Cinderella in a 19th-century French popular print

Plot (Charles Perrault 1697)

The king of a small country, a widower with a daughter from his first marriage, a lovely and kind girl, married an arrogant and evil lady with two daughters who looked like a mother in everything. The father "obeyed his new wife in everything." The stepmother makes her stepdaughter live in the attic, sleep on a straw bed and do the hardest and dirtiest work. After work, the girl usually rests, sitting on a box of ashes near the fireplace, so the sisters called her Cinderella. Cinderella's stepsisters bathe in luxury, and she meekly endures their ridicule.

Gustave Doré

Prince Mirliflor arranges a ball to which he invites all the noble people of the kingdom with their wives and daughters. Cinderella's stepmother and sisters are also invited to the ball; Cinderella herself, in her dirty rags, no one will let into the palace. After the departure of her stepmother and sisters, Cinderella weeps bitterly. She is visited by her godmother, who is a fairy. Kind fairy turns a pumpkin, mice, a rat and lizards respectively into a carriage, horses, a coachman and servants, Cinderella's rags into a luxurious dress, and gives her beautiful shoes. She warns Cinderella that exactly at midnight the carriage will turn back into a pumpkin, the dress into tatters, etc. Cinderella is going to the ball. Everyone admires her beauty and outfit, the prince meets and dances with her. At a quarter to twelve, Cinderella "quickly said goodbye to everyone and hurried to leave." At home, she puts on an old apron and wooden shoes and listens to the delighted stories of the returned sisters about the beautiful stranger who shone at the ball.

Frederic-Theodor Lix

The next evening, even more elegant Cinderella goes to the ball again. The prince did not leave her side and whispered pleasantries to her. Cinderella had a lot of fun and she realized it only when the clock began to strike midnight. Cinderella runs home but loses her shoe.

Gustave Doré

The prince announced throughout the kingdom that he would marry a girl who could hit a tiny slipper on her foot. To the surprise of the sisters, Cinderella freely puts on the shoe. Immediately after trying on, Cinderella takes out a second identical shoe from her pocket, and the fairy turns her rags into a luxurious dress. The sisters fall to their knees and ask for Cinderella's forgiveness. Cinderella forgives her sisters "with all her heart".

Cinderella is taken to the palace to the prince and a few days later he marries her. She took her sisters to her palace and on the same day married them to two court nobles.

There was something for the youngest to fall into despair, but only the cat turned out to be not simple, but an extremely enterprising fellow. "Little Red Riding Hood"

"Little Red Riding Hood". Oil painting by Swiss artistAlbert Anker , (1883)

Plot

The mother sends her daughter to her grandmother with milk and bread. She meets a wolf, tells him where she is going. The wolf overtakes the girl, kills the grandmother, prepares food from her body, and a drink from the blood, dresses in her grandmother's clothes and lies down in her bed. When the girl arrives, the wolf offers her food. Grandma's cat tries to warn the girl that she is eating her grandmother's remains, but the wolf throws wooden shoes at the cat and kills her. Then the wolf invites the girl to undress and lie down next to him, and throw the clothes into the fire. She does so and, lying down next to the wolf, asks why he has a lot of hair, broad shoulders, long nails, big teeth. To the last question, the wolf replies: “This is to quickly eat you, my child!” and eat the girl.

Gustave Doré

Thus ends most of the written versions, although in some the girl, with the help of cunning, runs away from the wolf.

Waltor Crane

Charles Perrault literary processed the folk story. He removed the motif of cannibalism, the cat character and her murder by a wolf, introduced a defiant little red riding hood - a “companion” cap (in the original - “chaperon” (fr. chaperon), which went out of fashion in the cities at the time of Perrault, but was popular with women in countryside), which the girl wore, and most importantly, he moralized the tale, introducing the motive for the girl’s violation of decency, for which she paid, and concluded the tale with poetic morality, instructing the girls to beware of seducers. Thus, although the crude naturalistic moments folk tale were significantly softened, the appeal to the issue of gender relations was emphasized.

Arthur Rackham

The tale was published in 1697 in Paris, in the book "Tales of Mother Goose, or Stories and Tales of Bygone Times with Instructions", better known as " Mother Goose Tales».

"Sleeping Beauty"

Frederic-Theodor Lix

Plot

The king and queen have a long-awaited daughter, and they invite all the fairies of the kingdom to the feast, except for one - because she has not left her tower for half a century, and everyone thought that she had died. In the midst of the baptismal feast, an uninvited fairy appeared, who, as it seemed to her, had been treated impolitely, because there was not enough precious cutlery for her. When all the fairies, except for one, who prudently decided to keep the last word, gave the princess magical gifts, the old fairy Carabosse uttered her shocking prophecy: the princess will prick her finger on the spindle and die.

Gustave Doré

The last fairy softens the sentence: “Yes, the princess will prick her finger on the spindle, but she will fall asleep for exactly 100 years” (there is no mention of the prince in the original version of Perrault). The king issues a decree to burn all the spinning wheels and spindles, but in vain: 16 years later, the princess finds an old woman in the tower of the country castle, who had not heard anything about the royal decree and was spinning a tow. The princess pricked her finger on the spindle and fell down dead. It's impossible to wake her up. The fairy who softened the spell appears and asks the king and queen to leave the castle. Meanwhile, she plunges the castle into an age-old sleep, and an impenetrable forest grows around it - so that no one enters the castle before the deadline. 100 years pass, the prince appears, enters the castle - and the princess awakens (there is no kiss, she woke up only because it was time for the spell to recede). Then there is a secret engagement. The prince visits his wife every day, and they have children - a son named Day and a girl named Dawn. But the prince's mother suspected a love affair and asks her son to bring her daughter-in-law and grandchildren to her castle.

Gustave Doré

Being a cannibal, she barely restrains her desire to eat her grandchildren. But the prince leaves for the war, and the mother-in-law begins to act. First, she orders to kill the granddaughter, then the grandson, and finally the son's wife and cook them more deliciously. But the butler hides the unfortunate in the stable, and the queen is served animal meat. One day, the cannibal queen, walking through the courtyard, heard screams from the stable: the princess planned to whip her son for a prank. The cannibal was so angry that she ordered to put a cauldron with all sorts of reptiles in the courtyard of the castle and throw her daughter-in-law and grandchildren there, but, fortunately, the prince returns. Unable to bear the shame, the cannibal herself throws herself into the cauldron and dies. At the end of the tale, the moral is: no girl will sleep for a century to wait for the groom with a title and wealth.

"Blue Beard"

Frederic-Theodor Lix

A wealthy aristocrat nicknamed Bluebeard is afraid of women: firstly, because of of blue color beard, for which he received such a nickname, and secondly, due to the fact that the fate of his six ex-wives remains unknown. In fear of him, none of the daughters dares to put forward their candidacy. As a result, having won the heart of the youngest daughter, the master plays a wedding with her, and she moves to live with him in the castle.

Gustave Doré

Shortly after the wedding, the gentleman leaves, saying that he is forced to leave on business, and gives his wife the keys to all the rooms, including the mysterious closet below, forbidding her to enter there under the threat of death. But during the departure of her husband, the girl cannot stand it and opens the door, discovering a puddle of gore and the bodies of all the previous wives of Bluebeard. Terrified, she drops the key into a pool of blood and, recovering herself, tries to wipe off the blood. But since this key is magic, it doesn't work.

Gustave Doré

Unexpectedly, Bluebeard returns from a trip. ahead of time and, from the excitement of his wife, he guesses that she has violated the agreement. She asks him for five minutes of time to pray, and she sends her older sister to the tower to see if the brothers have arrived. As time passes, Bluebeard runs out of patience, he takes out a knife and grabs his wife, but at that moment her brothers arrive and kill him.
