History of the Brest border group

In 1944, the Red Army launched a broad offensive. Its powerful attacks on the enemy followed one after another on the entire front from the Barents to the Black Seas, as a result of which it reached the state border of the USSR.

The question arose of taking the state border under guard by the border troops. Initially, it was supposed to use for this purpose the border regiments that guarded the rear of the army in the field. But then they agreed on something else: to form new detachments to protect the state border. For this, a part of the command and rank and file was allocated from the border guards of the rear guard and regular troops, as well as from the troops of the southern and eastern borders.

By order of the Main Directorate of the Border Troops of the NKVD, from April 25 to May 1, 1944, east of the city of Chita, in the area of \u200b\u200bLake Kenon and the Kadala station, the 86th separate border detachment was formed from the personnel of the units of the Trans-Baikal Border District to be sent to the western border of the USSR, in area of the city of Brest.

The main tasks, as well as the procedure for protecting the border (border line) were determined by the instruction to the border troops to protect the border line between the USSR and Poland.
