One of the oldest and most famous scientific center in Ukraine for the conservation of the diversity of world flora, founded in 1867. From to The Botanical Garden was headed by academician, ex-president of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine V. I. Lipsky. The botanical garden has the status of a natural monument and, by a decree of the Cabinet of Ministers, is assigned to the natural reserve fund of Ukraine. Its stock of introduced plants includes 3840 species, forms, varieties and hybrids.

Petrographic and Mineralogical Museum

The Petrographic and Mineralogical Museum, founded in 1865, is a national treasure. The museum funds comprise 12,500 samples from all over the world, among which the collection of samples of ore formations, including iron-manganese nodules, from the bottom of the World Ocean is unique in scientific value. The most valuable collection of the museum is the collection of meteorites, the richest in Ukraine and Europe.

Paleontological Museum

The Paleontological Museum, created on the basis of the collection of the Richelieu Lyceum, has existed since 1873. The museum belongs to the 10 best museums in the world, has more than 40 thousand exhibits. Many collections are standards in the study of the fauna of the former Black Sea region. The paleontological museum has no analogues in Ukraine in terms of the composition of fossil materials, and a significant number of exhibits are unique. The underground paleontological reserve in the karst caves of Odessa is also a national treasure, which is a unique burial in terraced deposits of more than 40 species of extinct animals.

ONU cooperates with 175 universities from different countries, is a member of the European and World University Associations.

Contribution of ONU named after I.I. Mechnikov in public life awarded with state and international awards. The Rector of the University, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor Igor Nikolaevich Koval is a well-known political scientist in the world, a member of many international scientific societies and organizations.

The graduate school, which is one of the largest in Ukraine, trains more than 500 people in 105 specialties. 30-35 PhD theses are defended annually.

More than 30 doctoral students work in doctoral studies every year, who defend from 10 to 15 doctoral dissertations per year.

In total, there are 7 specialized councils in Odessa National University, in which dissertations are defended in 29 specialties.

Material and technical base

Nine educational buildings, more than a hundred laboratories, computer classes. There are 8 dormitories for students; for recreation by the sea - own base "Chernomorka". The scientific library is one of the oldest and largest in Ukraine. Founded in 1817, the library has a fund of about 4 million copies, among which there are unique old editions of the 15th-17th centuries. and about 9,000 rare and valuable books.

ONU has its own museums - paleontological, petrographic-mineralogical, zoological, each of which is unique in its own way, and the paleontological museum is among the 10 best museums in the world.

An unforgettable experience will leave a visit to the botanical garden and the astronomical observatory of ONU.

Teaching staff

The total staff is 3200 employees, including 136 doctors of sciences, professors and 557 candidates of sciences, associate professors. ONU employs academicians, corresponding members of the NAM of Ukraine and industry academies, honored scientists, laureates of state and other awards.

Professors and teachers of ONU named after I.I. Mechnikov today develop the traditions of their famous predecessors, among which are laureates Nobel Prize, Presidents of the Academy of Sciences, founders scientific schools talented inventors.

Pre-university training

The department of pre-university training was created with the aim of purposefully conducting educational activities in the field of pre-university training, professional orientation of schoolchildren and the formation of a contingent of students who are able to successfully master educational and professional training programs in the specialties of the university, as well as to prepare for external independent assessment and final state certification.

Studying at the department of pre-university training is a significant help and a guarantee of success when entering our university.
