From the history of the institution
50 years is a rich age, but, judging by, the school existed before. Rather, there was its "progenitor" - the school of working youth at the factory "Red October", opened in 1923. If we count the age of the school from this date, then it is already 94 years old.
In 1925, at the expense of the state and the factory, a new building was built for the school of working youth - a one-story wooden building. Only one photograph of this building has been preserved.
After the liberation of Mozyrshchyna from Nazi German invaders in 1944, by the decision of the Mozyr city executive committee in the village of Krasny Oktyabr, Primary School#5 per 100 students. In the 1950s, the school was a seven-year school with five classrooms.
An act of October 20, 1964 has been preserved in the school archive, which states that it is not advisable to make a major overhaul of the existing building, since the main structural element - the walls - needs to be replaced. A new school building was built in 1967. “Even from afar, the white-stone three-story building of Mozyr secondary school No. 5, erected in the village of a reinforced concrete products factory, attracts the eye. Parents and children of the school express their heartfelt gratitude to the builders. Now classes are conducted in one shift. There are conditions for sports work, holding extracurricular activities", - wrote in 1968 the newspaper "Communist Polesie".
By the way, in 1991, the first computer class in the city appeared in school No. 5 with 11 computers and a teacher's computer.
The school is on the verge of its 50th anniversary. "We are a family!" - this is how the staff of the educational institution and its students say about themselves.

One of the oldest schools in the city strives to keep up with the times. The driver of progress here is the experience of teachers. Deputy Director for Academic Affairs Svetlana Vladimirovna Tsyk remembers how she came to work here. It was over 20 years ago. To her, a graduate of Gomel state institute(now F. Skorina University), a history teacher, was offered three schools to choose from as a job: No. 5, No. 6 and No. 2. “I chose Polesskaya and was satisfied,” the teacher smiles.
By the way, 13 teachers working today at school No. 5 are its own graduates.
And a professional team has also gathered here: 40.9% of teachers have the highest category, 33.3% - the first category, 13.6% - the second category. 8 young teachers are still without a category.
“We have a very interesting ratio of age and seniority at our school,” explains Svetlana Vladimirovna. - At the beginning of 2017, the total experience of all teachers of the institution is 1178 years, and their total age is 2712 years!

Pride and Achievement
The Oktyabrsky microdistrict, one of the most isolated in Mozyr, lives its own life and its own atmosphere. Since the 2016/2017 academic year, the school has been working on the implementation of the innovative project "Implementation of a network model for the formation of functional literacy of participants in an open community of educational institutions in the process of implementing socially significant projects." The goal of the project is the formation of functional literacy, which is seen as the ability to use all the knowledge, skills and abilities constantly acquired in life to solve the widest possible range of life tasks.
– To put it simply, to give schoolchildren not only academic knowledge, but also knowledge that they have practical use. For example, if we are working on computer literacy, then we will definitely learn simple but necessary things: to use email, create and print texts, and so on,” explains the deputy director. – When we started working on the project, we first surveyed our schoolchildren, students in grades 4-7, to determine literacy indicators. Based on the results of the survey, we found out what the problems are. For example, the guys showed insufficient communicative literacy. In this concept, we invest a fairly wide range of competencies - from the ability to communicate with other people to the ability to understand annotations for various products in a foreign language.
In order to improve communicative literacy, all subject teachers practice these skills with their students: this happens as if in the “background” and is possible in any lesson, our interlocutor says. Thanks to this approach, the functional literacy of students increases and the students themselves are more interested in learning.
Since 2011, the Board of Honor "Light Your Star" has appeared at the school. The stars here are school medalists. Over the past 7 years, school №5 has produced 10 excellent students with medals.
