Planning in LeaderTask

With the LeaderTask diary on iPhone, you can always display all your tasks for the coming day. But besides, you can plan the day, week, month and even years ahead!

Enter all tasks in “ Unsorted”, and then distribute them according to the corresponding dates. When planning, it is important to consider several rules:

  1. No more than 1 important task per day!
  2. The duration of each task should not exceed 1 hour. If it still exceeds, then break this task into subtasks.

Design and interface LeaderTask for 2018

Speaking about the application for the "apple", it would be foolish not to mention the design. And here is another praise for the developers - the software is made in the best traditions of Apple: minimalistic, beautiful and catchy.

The same can be said about the interface. With great potential LeaderTask, each action is performed literally in two taps - so convenient and simple that he himself has already transferred all the cases from the built-in iOS calendar to LeaderTask.

Summing up, I would like to note: I tried a lot of organizers for iPhone, but LeaderTask really “sunk” into my soul.

Mainly because of the synchronization and the appearance of my to-do list on my work computer, on my iPad and on my home Mac.

LeaderTask is implemented on such platforms from Cupertino as iOS, MacOS X, watchOS. In addition, you can download the program for other software. For example, for the flagship Windows or a great Android program. Or even work in a browser, because quite recently developers have introduced a web version of the service!

Try this very worthy product! The cost of a paid license is much lower than the market average, but you don’t need to buy anything right away - there is an excellent free version for trial and 7-day full trial.

An enhanced version of the Intel 8259A interrupt controller can connect to both the Intel 8085 microcomputer and the Intel 8086 microcomputer. In this section, we will discuss how the Intel 8259 interrupt controller enables extended interrupts for the Intel 8085 CPU, and also consider how it can be programmed in system initialization time, providing the required interrupt strategy.

Software developers periodically offer new, improved versions; system administrators often try to streamline their operating systems, sometimes improving them. In the first case, the documentation rarely keeps pace with changes, and if it does keep up with them, it may be inaccurate; in the second case, the documentation is usually non-existent.

Therefore, even such a PDP-11 operating system, which is considered the most common, can be fraught with surprises.

The basis for the book was the work on an improved version of the automated dispatch control system, which was put into operation at the Central Dispatch Office of the Unified State Gas Supply System of the USSR in 1985. Within the framework of this system, the main scientific and technical solutions discussed in the work were tested.

In Europe, the most popular system is Globalbase, a new and improved version of the Infomat International business database.

Smart (also smart) display: An advanced version of the LCD monitor with the latest type of touch screen digitizer. Designed for PC with Windows XP Professional operating system. When removed from the stand, it turns into a terminal running Windows CE. The forerunner of the smart display was a monitor known as the Mira.

In 1979, more formal trials of an improved version of MYCIN were organized to diagnose diseases such as bacteremia and meningitis.

Considerable attention is also paid to the performance characteristics of algorithms to make it easier to develop improved versions, to compare different algorithms for performing the same task, and to predict or guarantee performance on complex problems.

Defining high-level abstract representations of data structures or algorithms through operations that allow efficient development of advanced versions in high level.

The company has been offering tailoring services for individual models of women's jeans with the Personal Pair banner since 1994. Not so long ago, an improved version of the project, called Original Spin, was launched, which includes a number of new women's models, as well as men's jeans.

However, at the end of the 1980s the shortcomings of this system became apparent, and in 1989 its improved version VALS-2 was offered to the attention of the public. New system combines general theory types of personality on the study of the diffusion of goods. At the same time, the type of buyer is determined with the help of statements: I want one week of my life to be like another, I often experience excitement or I will not buy it, but rather I will do something myself, requiring unambiguous answers, unlike the original version of the questionnaire when respondents were asked to express their opinion about abortion or the legalization of marijuana use.

The original version of the editor, designed to work with both monochrome and color displays, does not provide printing of a binary image of a graphic symbol. This feature will be included in the upgraded version.

Inventories are not liquid assets because they cannot be sold quickly. This indicator is an improved version of the ratio of working capital to short-term liabilities (working capital ratio), although it still does not give a complete picture. current situation in the area of liquidity. It also does not take into account cash inflows and outflows, which are very great importance for the company's liquidity.

G77 includes an improved version of gcc that not only recognizes source files in C, C, and Objective C, but also, of course, in Fortran. Installing the version of gcc to work with Fortran files does not affect working with program files in other languages, but without installing the Fortran version of GNU Fortran gcc, working with Fortran programs is impossible.

It is tempting to try to develop ways to improve quicksort: the faster the sorting algorithm, the more attractive the capabilities of computing systems look, and quicksort is a venerable method that only reinforces this impression. Practically since the publication of the quicksort algorithm by Hoare, improved versions of it began to appear regularly in the literature. Many ideas have been proposed and analyzed, but it is not at all difficult to make mistakes in evaluating these improvements, since the algorithm is so well balanced that the effect of improving one part of the program can cause the performance of another part to deteriorate. We will study in detail three modifications that significantly increase the efficiency of quicksort.

LeaderTask

The Things task organizer, which is one of the most expensive and popular in the App Store, dropped its price to zero in honor of Thanksgiving Day. This holiday is celebrated only in the US and Canada, however, the discount is available in all regions of the App Store and not taking advantage of it means missing out on a great chance to save $20.

Things is an organizer that differs from its competitors primarily in its ease of use. The application does not have dozens of extra menus and sections that the user would have to change after adding each new task. At the same time, the functionality of Things is not inferior to other organizers due to a perfectly designed interface.

The secret to the success of Things is not only the talent of the developers, but also the level of support. Updates for the application have been released traditionally often, for several years now. The creators monitor user feedback, trying to bring the most popular requests to life as quickly as possible.

Despite all its advantages, Things often scared off users with its price. Not everyone is ready to pay $20 for an organizer, even if it is almost perfect. All the more valuable today's discount - you can download Things for free, and given that there are no in-app purchases, nothing can overshadow the use of the organizer in the future.

The iPhone and iPad versions of Things will be free to download until November 28, after which the $20 app price will return to its place.

Continuing our rubric of the most useful applications for iPhone and iPad, I decided to take a review today ... a calendar. Because, whatever one may say, this is certainly something that everyone uses. And since many are unhappy with the pre-installed calendar on the iPhone, I decided to look for some more convenient option, so to speak, 2 in 1: both a calendar and a task manager at the same time.

Actually, it didn't take long to find it. Because so many laudatory reviews, like Fantastical, is unlikely to have collected at least one other calendar. It's no joke, when its second version was launched for sale, it broke into first place (and held it for a long time) in the top paid programs in the American App Store. Do you know who she threw off the podium of leaders? Yes, the Angry Birds themselves Star Wars II. 🙂 . But seriously, of course, not this fact made me write about Fantastical today. And the one that experts and users, without saying a word, call this application the most beautiful and convenient calendar and organizer for the iPhone of all.

Let's see why Fantastical deserved such flattering epithets.

1). Fantastical integrates with all calendars and “reminders” installed on your smartphone, so after installing the application, you do not have to suffer and re-enter all your meetings and events into the program - everything will automatically be placed on the desired dates.

2). Perhaps the main thing that distinguishes Fantastical from a regular calendar is that it combines 2 functions at once - you can view and manage events directly from the calendar, as well as from Reminders. Hooray, hooray and hooray, there is no more need to "jump" between two programs at the same time. In Fantastical, "events" and reminders are conveniently combined into one list. But the biggest and most delicious "bun" is the ability of the application to recognize the time and date in the text. Actually, for this very function it was called a "smart calendar". Just imagine how much time it saves: when creating an event or a reminder, you no longer need to manually fill in 10 fields. You can simply write: "Meet Petya tomorrow at noon." And Fantastical will find the date and time in this phrase and put it in the calendar. This miracle also works for recurring events. For example, "training in the gym every Wednesday at 17.00." And voila - every Wednesday of the month there will be a fitness reminder. The application also supports word forms such as "remind me at 4 o'clock" and "reminder one hour before". In addition, the program can read not only text and time, but also the type of task: it can be a “to-do list”, “reminder”, “event” and so on.

With Fantastical, creating a to-do list takes seconds.
The laziest do not even need to write anything - just dictate, and the application will understand itself

The application is also equipped with the function of intelligent recognition of live speech. But there is no support for the Russian language in it. But it’s good that in order to create an “event” or “reminder” it is not necessary to speak English at the upper intermediate level 🙂. Knowing a couple of phrases to create voice commands from the category "lunch tomorrow at 12 pm" will be enough.

3). The app is really very easy to use. I would say that the developers have thought of Fantastical's user interface very well. The task of simultaneously displaying events for a day or a week / month is simply brilliantly solved. The user does not need to "poke" on all the dates of the calendar to get a detailed layout. In Fantastical, the screen is divided into 2 parts: at the top - calendar numbers with events and reminders, and at the bottom of the display - a list of all the tasks for the coming days. The days of the month are represented as an endless horizontal scroll bar. To switch to the display of the calendar month, just drag the days “down”, the same action works in the opposite direction. Events in the "monthly" form are marked with small circles, the color of which means the category - family, work, etc. Another interesting solution is that the “date feed” does not display all the days of the month, but only those for which you have something planned - you can easily view all important dates, ignoring the “empty days”. However, if someone prefers to see the calendar in its entirety, and not in a “truncated” form, then the “Show All Empty Days” option is provided in the program settings. In the settings, you can also choose a color "theme" (light or dark), specify the interval of standard mentions, and much more.

Other important "usefulness" awaits users in the specific events section. For example, a map, if the event is tied to a specific address. For the “reminder” itself, you can set up “geofencing” - that is, the reminder will work not at a certain time, but at the moment when you find yourself in right place. In my opinion, a very convenient feature, given our crazy pace of life, traffic jams and more. The time of arrival at a given point may be broken, but everything is accurate with the place. I came to the store - here's a list of products for you, as an option.

In addition, Fantastical 2 allows you to quickly call, send an email to e-mail or a message to attendees of an event scheduled on the calendar. There is also the "Birthday" option: you can "tap" on "birthday", see contact information and send birthday greetings.

4). Fantastical has a convenient search system. This is useful for those who like to plan everything and everything, and then get confused in their own plans. You can search for events by name, location, invitations, select a combination of several search items.

To be honest, it's hard for me to think of what else one could want from a simple calendar. Well, except to dream that such a charm would also be free. But in this case, I would probably agree that Fantastical 2 is worth the money. To date, the App Store offers the program for 299 rubles. But you can try to catch it on sale. If my memory serves me right, there were discounts on this calendar on Black Friday as well.

A good computer organizer saves more time and effort than it takes to use it, and also combines two opposite properties - ease of use and rich organization capabilities. For me, Things has become such an organizer.

The main thing that a computer organizer should be able to do

Creating new tasks quickly is the main thing that a good computer organizer should be able to do. Miscellaneous systems TMs offer different tools, but almost everyone said right away: don’t keep anything in your head, immediately transfer it to your inbox. I didn’t succeed for a long time, because at first I was too lazy to carry a notebook and a pencil with me, then I was too lazy to get a smartphone, open the application, type text. In addition, it was not always convenient. Things in conjunction with the voice assistant Siri solved this problem.

Things integrates with Siri through the Reminders app. You only need to call Siri. There are several quick ways to do this:

  • long press on the "Home" button;
  • holding the pause button on the headphones;
  • "Hey Siri" if your phone is charging.

With Air Pods, Siri is invoked by double tapping. Works even through a winter hat and hood. After Siri is called, it remains to dictate the task or idea that comes to mind. All. Now the task is in the drivers, and the brain will not overheat, constantly reminding of it.

It takes less than 10 seconds to create a task in Things using Siri

The desktop version of Things has hotkeys for quickly creating a new task. It takes me 5 to 10 seconds.

You can create tasks in Things even from a device that doesn't have the app installed. To do this, you just need to send a letter to a special address, which can be viewed in the settings:

By clicking "Manage", you will see the address of "Inbox" in your Things app

Convenient and clear structure

When there are many projects and tasks, you need a computer organizer that allows you to quickly organize the structure and freely navigate it. Things provides a balanced experience: limits nesting so that the user does not get lost, but gives enough options so that projects and tasks can be clearly distributed.

There are projects and areas to create structure. Projects can be large-scale goals that need to be broken down into small, step-by-step tasks. Areas unite projects by subject and areas of responsibility. Before the name of the area there is a box icon, before the name of the project - an active icon of a pie chart with a progress display. In the project itself, you can create sections that help you sort tasks into categories or stages.

Working window of the Things application: left sidebar - sections of all tasks, areas and projects; the right part - tasks and sections of a specific project

In the left sidebar at the top there are sections that display tasks not by projects, but by their status.

Inbox (Cmd+1). All tasks from the Reminders app go here, if you've configured it that way.

Set up import from Reminders

Tasks created using quick entry are waiting in the Inbox for project allocation if they have not been assigned a due date, project, or tags. You can distribute tasks by projects or areas by dragging and dropping or by pressing Cmd+Shift+M. If you move through a key combination, a window will appear where you can select a project with the mouse or by entering its name:

If you need to transfer a task from the Inbox to the Video Settings project, press Cmd + Shift + M, start typing "V" and press Return

"Today" (Cmd+2). There are two types of tasks:

  • the start date or due date of the task falls on today;
  • The start date or due date is in the past, but the task has not been completed.

Here we also see the events from the Calendar application and below them the tags of the tasks that fell into the Today section:

The Today window in Things

"Plans" (Cmd + 3). Here are events from the Calendar application and tasks with a start date or a due date in the future. They are sorted by day until the end of the month. From next month, all tasks for the month are shown. I plan my day in the morning, so in the "Plans" I mostly have repetitive tasks.

Plans section in Things

"Anytime" (Cmd+4). Tasks without a start date or recurring tasks are displayed here. They are grouped by regions and projects.

A section with tasks without a start date in Things

"Someday" (Cmd+5). Drag and drop here all the tasks and projects that you do not plan to do in the near future and may never do. So you will simplify the orientation in current projects, but you will not worry with thoughts: “What if you need it? Will there be time?"

Pending projects and tasks in the Someday section

"Journal" (Cmd + 6). All completed tasks and projects appear here. You can set up the transfer to the "Journal" immediately, once a day or manually. Tasks are sorted into sections "Today", "Yesterday", "Current month" and "Last 4 months".

"Basket". If you deleted a task or project, but then changed your mind and decided to restore it, you can do it from the Recycle Bin.

Working with tasks in Things

Tasks in Things have eight properties: title, note, start date, reminder, tag, checklist, due date, and recurrence.

Name. I advise you to put the first word in the title of the task with a verb that answers the question: “What needs to be done?”.

The note. Task notes can store: short description tasks, links to pages, files, other tasks and any active links.

date start. The date the task will appear in the Today section. This is not a task deadline. If you do not close the task on the day of the assigned date and do not set another date, it will remain in the "Today" section and the next day.

Reminder. The time at which Things will remind you with a notification about your task. The reminder is tied to a start date.

Tag. I use tags as context to quickly find necessary tasks. For example, I have tasks that need to be discussed with a colleague. All of these tasks are tagged "Aleksey O". When we cross paths with him in one place, I need to go to Things and start typing this tag. Already on the second letter, the text will be in the first position:

To use search in Things, all you have to do is start typing

Now it remains to press Return, and Things will show all the tasks with the tag "Alexey O":

Display in Things all tasks with a specific tag

Check list. There are routine tasks in which we can miss something, because we are used to doing it automatically. Or, for example, my evening ritual consists of small tasks that I don’t want to set as a separate task so as not to inflate the list. In both cases, I use a checklist:

In the task "Conduct an evening review" I use the checklist as a list of small subtasks

Extreme term. It differs from the beginning of the task in that it is shown to the right of the name and turns red if the task is not completed on time.

Tasks in Things with a deadline

repetitions. You can set up repetitions in Things for every taste and need. The simplest is to repeat the task after completion in a certain number of days, weeks, months or years.

Choosing a recurrence logic in Things

You can set the task to repeat after a certain number of days, weeks, months or years, but specifically, for example, on the twelfth day or second Sunday of the month.

Multiple windows

In the desktop version of Things, you can open multiple windows at once. On the big screen of iMac 21, I open 3 windows at once. On the left, the "Plans" section is always open to see the load for the next days. In the right - "Today", so as not to lose the focus of the day. Middle window for searching tasks and projects. It is open with a left sidebar for ease of navigation:

Three Things windows on one screen

Things mobile app

In the mobile application, the structure, task properties and logic are identical to the desktop one. But the ways of interaction are redesigned for the smartphone. All frequently repeated actions can be quickly performed using swipes and the keyboard.

To go to the desired section, project or find a task, just drag the screen down. The app will open a quick search. Usually the first few letters are enough to find what you need:

Quickly jump to the right section, project, or task in Things

To set a start date for a task, a reminder, or, conversely, clear these properties, you need to swipe on the task from left to right:

Changing the "When?" settings in Things

To change the properties of several tasks at once, you need to swipe one task from right to left, mark the necessary ones and select an action:

Multi-tasking actions in Things

When I used other computer organizers, I opened the mobile version, due to the inconvenience of using it, only to see the list of tasks. With the Things app, the situation has changed: although the desktop version is always more convenient than the mobile version, I quite often open Things on my smartphone to create new tasks, adjust the schedule, move and edit.

Automation of work with Things

Things makes work faster and easier, not only through ease of use, but also through automation. There are two options: Siri integration and Things URLs.

Siri integration

At the beginning of the article, I described how to use Siri and the Reminders app to create a new task. But you can create tasks without the Reminders app. You can also view lists with Siri. By a list of things, I mean areas, projects, and tags. For example, if I tell Siri "Show my list I'm writing in Things", the application will automatically open the project "WRITING".

If I need not just tasks for this project, but with the "draft" tag, I create a new quick command. I already wrote, ". In the case of Things, this is easier and faster. In the Things app: SettingsSiri and ShortcutsShow list:

Create a quick command in Things for Siri that will show all the tasks of the project "WRITE" with the tag "draft"

Now it is enough to press the desired command on the widget panel or voice it to Siri, and the application will do everything for you.

URL-Things addresses

The Things URL scheme lets you create tasks, view lists, and search for items using links.

Enable URL scheme in Things settings

Such links are the same for desktop and mobile versions. They can be inserted into other tasks, any text, assign hotkeys to them. I often get ideas for article topics for work and personal projects. In order not to forget the idea, you must immediately create a task. Such tasks have the same project, the same tag and reminder time. Only the name differs. In order not to fill out the project, tags and time each time, I create a link by which Things opens the creation of a new task with data already filled in. It remains only to type in the name.

The URL scheme is a separate issue. Automation capabilities through the link will pull on several longreads. If you have even a little knowledge of programming or algorithms, read the documentation from Things on this topic. There is also a link builder that anyone can use:

The only drawback of Things is the price of the app: $50 for the desktop version, $20 for the iPad, and $10 for the iPhone. But there is a plus here too. There are no subscriptions or additional purchases in Things. In my opinion, this is a fair price for such a powerful tool that saves time, effort and nerves.
