School weeks in the first quarter

Traditionally, the first quarter covers September and October. There will be 5 study weeks in September (including the first week of one day), 21 study days. In October there are 4 academic weeks, 20 academic days. On October 30, the first holidays for schoolchildren begin - autumn. They will end on November 7 (the national unity holiday - November 4 - falls on Saturday and is postponed to Monday November 6).

School weeks in the second quarter

The second quarter also lasts two months - November and December. In the upcoming academic year in November there will be 4 academic weeks, 18 academic days. In December, children will also go to school for 4 weeks, 18 school days. It is planned to complete the second quarter on December 27, on December 28 the second vacation for schoolchildren will begin - winter.

School weeks in the third quarter

The third quarter at school is traditionally considered the longest, most difficult and decisive. It lasts January, February and March. In January, schoolchildren will spend 3 weeks, 15 days in the classroom. In February, there are 4 academic weeks, 20 academic days. In March, academic weeks - 3, academic days - 17. On January 11, the Ministry of Education recommends that students start studying, and on March 26, students should be released for the next in a row - the third - spring holidays.

Study weeks at universities

In universities, the total number of study weeks is limited to 40 weeks. Vacations for students are timed to. You can find out more precisely only in the administration of a particular university. The only thing that can be said is that in winter they last 2 weeks, and in summer - at least 6.

The answer to the second part of the question caused me some difficulties, because there is no specification in which country the work and study weeks are. How many weeks are there in the 2019 academic year? The answer to this question has great importance not only for teachers, but also for the students themselves, as well as for their parents. Students, among other things, are interested in the number of even and odd weeks. After all, on the basis of this information, they can competently build a schedule of study, rest, and, for some, work in their free time from lectures. simple calculations show that students of higher and secondary institutions of Russia in 2019 expect 45 academic weeks - 23 odd and 22 even. However, one even week includes only 2 days - September 1 and 2.

What are the reasons for the different results in our calculations? The thing is that graduating students, after graduation and the formal last call, begin to take exams:

• in the 9th grade, the main state exam is mandatory for passing (it also represents the state final certification, or GIA for short);
• completes studies in the 11th grade of the unified state exam or USE.

The number of weeks we calculated fits well into the requirements of the Ministry of Education, which sets a limit of 33-35 weeks for schoolchildren.

Calculate the number of weeks by quarters

Academic year in Russian schools traditionally divided into 4 quarters. Therefore, we calculate the number of training weeks for each of them.

I quarter

In 2017, it ended on October 27, Friday. After two days off, short autumn holidays began. It is easy to calculate that in the first quarter there were 9 academic weeks, which include September 1st.

II quarter

Starting on November 7, it lasted two months, until the New Year. Both November and December had 18 school days. That is 4 weeks. On December 28, long the winter vacation.

3rd quarter

It began quite recently, but this quarter traditionally covers three months at once:

• January - only 15 school days, of which three weeks are added;
• February - 20 days, that is, 4 training weeks;
• March - 17 school days and three weeks.

Adding up the numbers above, we get 129 days and 27 weeks of school until spring break, which starts on March 26th. Do not forget also about the additional rest that is provided to students lower grades. In 2019, these holidays are scheduled for February 19-25. Thanks to this, the longest quarter will be a little shorter for first graders.

IV quarter

It remains to add to the data received the indicators of the last quarter. It takes April and May, includes 38 school days, which are combined into 8 weeks.

Let's sum up the final results. Schoolchildren in 2019 will study for 167 days. The number of school weeks per year is 35. As mentioned above, it may be slightly less for elementary students who do not pass final assessments and exams.

Number of study weeks for students

According to the requirements of the Ministry of Education, the number of training weeks in secondary specialized and higher educational institutions cannot be more than 40. The year is divided into two semesters, between which holidays are arranged, traditionally starting on New Year's Eve.

The duration of student vacation is determined by the administration of educational institutions, so it is rather difficult to give exact information about the dates. We can only say that summer holidays last about six, and in winter - no more than two weeks.

Number of training weeks according to the modular system

In some regions of Russia, education in schools is carried out using a newfangled modular system or trimester system. It looks like this:

• schoolchildren first study for five weeks in a row, of course, excluding weekends - Saturday and Sunday;
• after that, students go on vacation, lasting exactly one week.

Such a system is much more convenient than the traditional one, as it allows you to correctly plan your studies and rest. The main convenience is the same number of school days and days off, the absence of too long or, on the contrary, too short quarters, for which it’s really impossible to do anything.

It is worth mentioning one feature. When studying in trimesters and quarters, both winter and summer holidays begin at the same time.

Every school back at the end of summer comes the annual calendar. This is the school schedule for the 2016-2017 academic year at the school, which describes in detail the study hours, plans, vacations. The academic year begins, traditionally, and this has not changed for a long time, from September 1. 4. Grades 10-11 have 34 academic weeks. But here, again, eleventh graders and male schoolchildren will have a summer examination period, holding training camps on the basics of military service.

When does the school year end

As a rule, for training sessions The end date is May 25th. At least for 2017 in the regulations and study calendars you can find this period. But as for the end of the academic year 2016-2017, it takes place on August 31, 2017. That is, the summer holidays are included in the academic year as a whole and, as it were, end it.

As for the semesters for grades 10-11, the first semester consists of 16 weeks and includes the first two quarters. The second semester is 18 academic weeks and it also includes two quarters. That is, holidays for high school students will be according to the general schedule.

Separately about holidays

As for, if training in an educational institution is traditional, in quarters, then there are also recommendations from the Ministry of Education, which are included in the plan for the year. Although, depending on each school, the deadlines may shift slightly, but still, they should fit within the framework.

So the autumn holidays will last nine days and here the recommended dates are the last day of October and the eighth of November as the end of the holidays. Winter holidays will be exactly two weeks, starting on December 29, they will end on January 11, 2017, that is, you will need to go to school again on January 12. Then spring break, which lasts nine days and is recommended to start on March 25, ending on April 2.

With particular impatience, schoolchildren, not students of grades 9 and 11 (they have exams ahead), are waiting for the start summer holidays. They begin on the first day of summer and last until August 31, with this day the last academic year will end, on September 1 the new academic year will already begin.

Important! Schoolchildren who are studying in correctional development classes, as well, have an additional seven days of winter holidays. Roughly, they begin on February 6 and last until February 12.

How schools work
