Since 2011 in Nizhny Novgorod there is a branch of the NGIEU, created by joining the NGIEI of the Nizhny Novgorod Technological College. With the accession in October 2012 of the Nizhny Novgorod College of Technology and Design, the branch received the name "Institute of Food Technologies and Design - a branch of GBOU VPO NGIEU".

The structural subdivisions of the university are specialized educational centers: the Center for Driver Training, the Center for Industrial Qualifications, the Center for Certified User Training with 1C software products; Energy Audit Center; Center - network academy "Cisco" and others.

The university is focused on meeting the needs of educational services residents municipal districts and small towns of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Education at NGIEU for students is free. More than 900 applicants from most districts of the Nizhny Novgorod region and neighboring regions enter the university annually.

The university prepares specialists capable of working in various industries and fields of activity. During the existence of the university (institute), about 2,500 graduates, bachelors and masters and more than 750 specialists with secondary vocational education.

The university is fully staffed. The qualifications of the teaching staff are constantly being improved. More than 160 teachers have scientific degrees (of which more than 90 are full-time), including a doctorate degree - 28 teachers.

The scientific activity of NGIEU scientists is focused on the real sector of the economy, including on improving the efficiency of agricultural production, its technical and technological modernization, and solving social problems in rural municipal areas. Total average annual funding scientific activity is more than eight million rubles, of which more than half - from extrabudgetary sources.

In just 12 years, teachers, including those who came to science from the real sector of the economy, have prepared and defended in various dissertation councils in various specialties more than 40 candidate and 1 doctoral dissertations.

The University is actively working with enterprises and organizations - strategic partners. Together with a number of them: Sberbank, GAMA travel agency, Lyskovsky Brewery CJSC, Pokrovskaya Sloboda CJSC, Rostelecom OJSC, basic departments have been created. The University carries out purposeful extracurricular work. The task is not only to prepare a competent, qualified specialist with professionally significant qualities, but also to form civil, moral qualities personality. There are musical and dance groups, eight KVN teams. University delegations annually take part in all-Russian student forums. Sports and physical culture and health-improving work is actively carried out. The university has several sports teams in team sports and water tourism.
