In this article, I will be happy to recall my student days and share the experience of five for long years. Dedicated to all students!

A curious situation is emerging - there are millions of students in the country, most of them experience the same problems and difficulties from year to year, and there is practically no information on how to deal with them on the Web. A dozen pages found through Google enlighten students on how to properly prepare for exams and talk to a teacher - that's all! As if student life is limited to exams… Rather, on the contrary, exams occupy a very insignificant place in a student’s life: “Students live happily from session to session.”

(Although: I also managed to find a translated article of a different kind, stuffed with nonsense about And)

Therefore, writing an article about how to achieve success in a university and in general how to make sure that five (someone has six) years of study does not go down the drain is simply necessary.

Let's get started.

Tip number zero. I'm starting from scratch, because the advice is addressed to high school graduates and applicants. Usually, at the end of the 11th grade, schoolchildren begin to go into a natural fever: pass the final exams (well, the Unified State Examination), squeeze into the university ... The motto of these days is “just to enter, it doesn’t matter where.” This is an extremely harmful and wrong approach. At the age of 17, few people think about the importance of choosing a place of study - but in vain, because it has a strong effect on the rest of their lives. Therefore, I invite applicants (if they are reading the article) to answer a few questions:

1. Why am I going to enter this university? .What do I expect from my studies?

2. What will I do after graduation? How will the knowledge or acquaintances that I received at this university help me in my studies?

3. Where would I begin to enter if I knew exactly what I would do?

4. Where should I go, given my answers to the previous three questions?

tip number one. So, you entered a university, studied there for the first week, no longer confuse the names and patronymics of teachers and are aware of where you can intercept a piece between couples. Wonderful! Now it's time to stop and think. For simplicity, here are the questions again:

1. What has changed in my attitude towards this university? What new (and important) did I learn about him?

2. What can this university give me in terms of knowledge? How and where are its graduates settled?

3. What can this university give me besides knowledge? Dating and connections? Social work experience? The start of a scientific career?

It is important that you answer these questions as early as possible and determine the main thing as honestly as possible: how studying here relates to yours. Very often, a student comes to the realization that he slightly missed the mark when choosing a university or faculty. Very often he understands that study is futile. Do not hide from such thoughts. You should always be fully aware of the situation.

Tip number two. Your further actions depend on the answer to the questions in the previous paragraph. Here are some of the most likely routes:

Situation A: you understand that studying at this university can really give you enough practical and theoretical knowledge, in senior years students undergo internships and practice in good organizations and it definitely makes sense to study here. Well, then it's simple. Choose the subjects you will need for work after graduation and understand them well. On the rest, pay exactly as much attention as necessary so that there are no extra “tails”.

Situation B: Everything is exactly the opposite.

- if you spent a lot of time (you found that the university does not suit you in the 1st year) - enter another. Better to lose a year than 5.

- if the time has passed in order, then perhaps changing the place of study will not be too reasonable.

Tip number three. What to do if the university does not suit you, and it is too late to change it?

At one time (unfortunately, it was already in the 4th year ...) I sketched out for myself the following program of action:

1. Minimize the loss of time at the university.

2. Squeeze out everything you can from your native university, since you can’t get good knowledge.

3. Forget that I am a student and find myself another, more useful thing, to which I will devote maximum time and effort.

4. To perceive studying at the university as a training of ingenuity (to take exams without preparation), (to persuade especially evil teachers to let go of the class) and (to sit on compulsory classes).

All this, in principle, turned out well for me. Here are some examples.

Time Loss Minimization:

  • at the beginning of the semester, I made a rating of teachers - how much you can skip without consequences - and skipped accordingly;
  • having a little cold, I ran to the clinic, made tired eyes and complained of weakness - and as a result I received the coveted certificate, allowing me to do my own thing for a week or two;
  • unlike lectures, I attended seminars carefully and talked to them without shutting up - which, with some skill, is quite simple. In teachers, the “active student” lever clicked in their heads and it became easy to press the “set the machine” button;
  • in my fifth year (late, late ...) I did a little study, as it is now called, social activities- there was another great excuse for all occasions.

Squeezing everything you can out of the university:

  • increased scholarship - of course (automatic machines and a beautiful record book helped);
  • trip to the south
  • acquaintances and connections.

Over the last two courses, I also worked in places 6-7, snatched off a dozen certificates and diplomas in various competitions outside the university, managed to start (and fail, which is natural) my kind of business project, as well as “pump”, the ability to communicate and public speaking, time management. The only thing I regret is that I started truancy too late and was an exemplary student for too long. That would start the course on the second! Eh!

In general, the main advice for students that I would like to give does not shine with originality, but it will probably be the only correct one:

This tip: be mindful of your studies. Always be clear about your long term goals and follow them, even if it interferes with your studies. Your goals are more important!

High school students look forward to the beginning of student life, working people remember it with nostalgia, but students sometimes face overwhelming difficulties. The subjects are complex, the teachers are strict, and the benefits of education are not obvious.

From four to nine years: so many, depending on the chosen specialty, study at Russian universities.

It sounds like a court sentence for a serious crime - in case the student chose the wrong specialty.

It is necessary to take seriously the choice of the “right” university for various reasons:

  • a look into the future. Find out everything about your future specialty: is it in demand on the labor market, can you find a job in your city? Prepare in advance for the harsh conditions of adult life, so as not to join the ranks of cashiers with higher education;
  • information quality. Having decided on a specialty, find a decent educational institution. State or commercial - you decide. The main thing is that the level of education in it is high enough. Even if you are not confident in your abilities, apply to best universities. Good USE system allows you to try success in different places;
  • company of like-minded people. At school, you do not determine your surroundings, your classmates are people who happen to be nearby. Another thing is classmates. If you chose by interests, then they are interested in the same thing. They will infect you with their enthusiasm and share your anxieties. It is easy to find friends for life among them;
  • saving resources. Get free higher education in Russia it is possible only once. Having studied on the budget of a faculty you do not need, you will have to get the necessary specialty for money;
  • valuable time. While you are suffering mathematical analysis, the most energetic period of your life is passing by. If you are sure that mathematics is not suitable for you, it is better to leave it on time.

You can waste a few years taking a place that someone else dreams of. But studying at the university is your life for a long period. Treat your choice responsibly.

Studying at the university is hard: what to do

Lots of subjects, getting up early, homework, and that dreaded word "session." Studying at the university is really difficult.

Just remember that this won't always be the case. The first year you work for a record book, then the record book works for you. That is, not every teacher will give bad grades to an excellent student.

There are a few secrets to make learning easier for yourself.

And to endure the tense, take note of these facilitators student life secrets:

  • don't skip lectures. Teachers rightly dislike disregard for their subject. Do not offend them, your grades depend on them;
  • make friends with a supervisor. Your instructor term paper should be like a father to you. It will not only help you do great work and protect it perfectly. At good relations you can always turn to him for professional advice - both at the university and after it;
  • participate in scientific life university. Olympiads, conferences and competitions will replenish your resume, expand the amount of knowledge gained and the circle of acquaintances. They allow you to try out the topic of a term paper or diploma in advance. And yet, everyone will know that you are smart;
  • take notes. Do not be lazy to record lectures in detail. So you "turn on" visual and mechanical memory and better learn knowledge. Usually teachers ask at the exam exactly what they themselves told in the classroom;
  • become an activist. The university is always boiling public life there are a lot of activities going on. If you are an athlete, a singer or a sketch artist, show yourself! University needs activists. They are "pulled up" in their studies when they cannot cope on their own;
  • allocate time. The image of a student who transferred all his studies to the last night before the exam has firmly settled in our heads. If you are one of those, the session will be a nightmare for you. Prepare for exams gradually and in advance. By the way, students who have proven themselves in pairs have a chance to get an “automatic” grade, that is, for nothing;
  • remember the main thing. Studying at the university is not always happy in itself. But you know what you need it for. In the most difficult moments, remember future career and success in the profession. For their sake, it is worth going through hard times;
  • strange as it sounds, to make it easier to learn, you need to learn. It is more difficult to imitate violent activity in front of teachers than to work honestly. Checked!

As you can see, to ease educational process there are no magic spells, you still have to work hard. But knowing these, you can make your university studies much easier.

It's no secret that your university can become your second home. A place where it is joyful to come every day. This is wrong? So, you need to change something: your attitude to learning or your environment.

In order not to have to sleep during lectures, you need to get enough rest

Try to follow our advice:

  • make connections with classmates. An unfriendly environment can make anyone depressed. Try to make friends with your classmates, even if they seem unsympathetic at first. Which is strange, because they should at least have common professional interests with you;
  • establish contacts with teachers. It's simple. It is enough to ask them questions, showing your attention to the subject, and not to argue. Do not argue with them, even if they are a thousand times wrong. Or argue, just a little bit. And don't neglect them teaching aids: if the teacher offers his own manual, it is better to buy it;
  • Find an interesting course topic. It is best if the topic also has a practical professional application. Such coursework will be interesting and useful, and it will be easier to defend it. Think about it right away when you start your studies, otherwise the need to choose a topic will take you by surprise;
  • do not get a job from the first year. At least not for a full day. Balancing study and work is difficult. In addition, education is necessary for the knowledge in your mind to develop into a system. Give yourself the opportunity to delve into university subjects and form a base for new information to come in. Otherwise, you risk getting a mess in your head and superficial thinking at the exit;
  • Rest. Too much is not good. If you feel that your head hurts from new knowledge, take a break. Change the environment, spend the weekend in nature, sign up for a sports section. Students may be the best time of your life - make it memorable. Small breaks will help you forget about your studies for a while and be inspired to new actions. Including in the field of science.

The secret to successful university studies is simple: it's all about love. Try to love your university, course and occupation. So new knowledge will be given to you easily and imperceptibly.

Benefits of good study

So, you need to study, fill out notes, pore over term papers, participate in conferences - and knowing the secrets of studying at the university does not save you from daily work. Logical question: why?

Everyone knows the examples famous people who never graduated from the university, but at the same time they settled perfectly in life, having achieved fabulous success.

No matter what they say, but employers prefer to hire educated employees

Conversely, having a diploma is not an indicator of skill.

The employer values practical skills, and a beginner without experience will not help in getting a job.

So many students argue, justifying their laziness. But is it true?

Yes and no. Indeed, experience in a profession is often more important when applying for a job than a record in a diploma.

But that doesn't mean that grades aren't taken into account at all. For example, one of the founders of Google believes that human intelligence gives GPA his diploma, in particular marks in mathematics and English.

The remaining marks reflect the ability of a person to implement this knowledge in other areas.

Be confident, even if the employer himself has barely graduated high school, he prefers graduate an ignoramus and an excellent troechnik. After all, under the words about the uselessness of education is often just a love of idleness.

Thus, learning the secrets of successful university studies is useful to get a job easily. There are other benefits of a good study at a university:

  • knowledge. Sounds trite, but it's important. Study develops your intellect. Even Latin or sopromat, no matter how useless they may seem in your specialty, “pump” your brain. Do not be afraid that no one will need knowledge. Intelligent heads are always expensive;
  • Events. Good students have access to trips to other cities and even countries at the expense of the university. There are a huge number of events. These are Russian and international scientific conferences, student exchange programs, talent competitions, field practice, holiday camps. Plus, universities often arrange students as volunteers for major sports competitions. You can become an active participant in all university events;
  • protection. Teachers and management of universities have connections with your potential employers. They can put in a good word for you. That is, you don’t even have to look for a job, it will come into your hands;
  • increased scholarships. The increase for excellent study is small, but pleasant. However the best students special payments are made. These are nominal government and presidential scholarships- students of faculties can count on them priority areas showing high educational achievements. In addition, there are scholarships from the Moscow government, regional scholarships, scholarships from commercial organizations: Potaninskaya, VTB Bank, Dr. Web, etc. In total, a student can receive more than the average salary in the region per month by studying alone;
  • self respect. Receive excellent grades nice anyway. At least you can take a photo with a red diploma for your profile picture.

The secret of success, according to one famous person, simple: study, study and study again. The effort invested in studying at the university pays off not only financially, but also intellectually.

If you consider it a waste of energy, think about it, maybe your laziness is just dear to you. Just because Steve Jobs dropped out of college doesn't mean you can't go to college either.

Good luck in development, young padawan! Remember that excellent study, diligence and diligence has not hurt anyone yet. You can sit at the university for several years, dreaming about Friday or holidays.

Or make your students the foundation of an interesting and successful career, travel around the country and the world, “pump” your intellect. We hope that the secrets of studying at the university that we have discovered will help you fall in love with your university. Then it will not be difficult to engage in it. After all, it is for love.

In this video you will learn how to make learning fun:

You will not surprise anyone with the fact that undergraduate students combine work with full-time studies. Sometimes this choice is dictated by necessity: you need to pay for your own education or financially help the family. But more often than not, kids just want to be seen as adults and don't want to ask their parents for pocket money.

No matter the reason why you decided to start working without graduating from university, one thing is important: you must successfully cope with both work and study, and most importantly, one should not interfere with the other.

Today we will talk about what you should remember if you are going to combine study and work.

If you haven't found a job yet

I can bet that even if you have never seriously thought about finding a job, you still threw this phrase a couple of times in a conversation with classmates or friends: “I’m going to find a job”, “There is only one theory at the university, it’s time to look for a job and practice” , “I already want to work, I’m tired of this university”, “I’ll go to work, at least they pay money there” - the wording can be different, but the essence is always the same.

Perhaps you didn’t want to seriously look for a job, you just wanted to show yourself as a cool and adult person who is already thinking about professional self-realization.

But you still decided to put aside empty talk and started looking for a job in earnest. So where to start.

Do not look for a job in the category "for students"

When I look at the section "Work for students", I become more than sad. Waiters and promoters - these are the positions, according to employers, university students can apply for.

You are studying at a higher educational institution, you get a specialty that (I really want to believe in it) you like and in which you are going to continue to work and build a career. So why waste precious time on yourself by doing completely extraneous activities? Try to find a job in your specialty.

It will seem to you that you don’t know anything, you don’t know anything, you are uncompetitive, and in general it’s too early for you to aim so high. You should stifle this feeling of insecurity in yourself and your own abilities at the very root, otherwise you will live with it all your life - both in your student years and after you graduate from the university.

Dare and aim for more. Studying to be a lawyer, journalist, accountant, etc.? It's time to start learning the basics of the profession in practice. Feel free to look for vacancies in your professional field, and do not be confused by the endless number of required skills and the lines “mandatory higher specialized education” and “work experience in a similar position from one year”. About work experience - it's like in a well-known joke:

To get a job, you need to have work experience. And to get work experience, you need to work. I can't decide where to start.

As for the requirements - in most cases they are too high, so do not rush to give up before you even start. Of course, you should not lie to the employer, endowing yourself with mythical skills and abilities that you do not have, but showing yourself as a young novice specialist who is ready to learn a lot is another matter.

Don't Give Up on Job Opportunities You'll Get at University

And no, I don't mean working at a university as a laboratory assistant (although sometimes that's a very good option).

At the university, you will do an internship in enterprises starting from junior years, and if you show yourself well, then you may be invited to work. Do not rush to refuse.

Very often there are opportunities to get a job "under patronage". Sometimes the enterprises themselves send a request to the university with a request to advise talented guys, and sometimes fifth-year students are looking for one of the students for their place, as they are moving to another city or simply want to change their place of work.

Remember that this is a good chance, and missing good chances is stupid.

Get a job in the summer

The first month of work will be one of the most difficult for you. First, you need to get comfortable and fit into the team. Secondly, to delve into all your work responsibilities. In the summer you don't have classes, exams, tests and other academic affairs, so you can fully devote your time to work.

So, if possible, try to get a job in the summer. So you will save a bunch of your own nerves, which you will undoubtedly need in the fall, when the training front will also be added to the worker.

If you are already employed

First and foremost - don't complain

You will be proud of yourself. And, of course, sometimes you want to be pitied.

We love to complain, and there's nothing wrong with that. Sometimes we just need it. But in this case, when you complain that you are “tired of combining work and study, it is insanely hard for you, there is not enough time for personal life and so I want to send everything to hell, ”think for a minute: do you really want to be pitied?

You want to be told something like: “Oh, poor thing, you study and work! It must be hard for you, there is no free time at all? I bet that's not what you wanted at all. You dreamed of hearing: “Listen, what a great fellow you are, you manage to do everything and successfully cope with everything! I am proud of you / I envy you with white envy, ”etc.

What you really want is not pity, but praise.

That is your true purpose. You want people to recognize your achievements, you are proud of yourself and you want others to be proud of you too.

Of course, this seems strange to us: to approach a person and say that now I will tell you what a fine fellow I am, and you praise me. But try at least once, and it will no longer seem immodest and unusual to you.

We all want others to recognize our achievements, to see what we have achieved, and there is absolutely nothing shameful in this.

Prioritize

I got my first job in the summer after I finished my third year. I studied well, rarely missed classes and was not going to lower the bar any further. Study has always been a priority, I never thought about it, but I always knew that if one day I had to choose between study and work, I would always choose the first.

It was my choice, although I know a dozen guys who dropped out of their senior years for work.

You must understand from the very beginning what is more important to you and what you will give up if circumstances force you to make a choice.

Plan your time

I was lucky in many ways: at my first job I had a free schedule, there was no need to be in the office every day from 9:00 to 17:00.

Work is inconsistent

Except, of course, one thing: despite the free schedule, I had to do all my work on time. I never considered myself a hyper-responsible person, but I always knew that I could not fail to complete the task on time, no matter what it is: work or study.

Very often, work and study played tug of war, and something like this came out:

And after a couple of weeks as a zombie who falls asleep at 3:30 and wakes up at 6:30, there is only one conclusion to be drawn:

What happens when you sleep for 3 hours

I am an owl, and it was not at all difficult for me to do work and study at night, but getting up in the morning was, to put it mildly, a little hard. After I slept safely several times, simply because the exhausted body flatly refused to respond to the sound of the alarm clock, I realized that something needed to be changed.

Remember that health (both physical and mental) is one of our most valuable irreplaceable resources, and if you ruin it, then you will no longer be up to work and not to study. Set yourself a deadline: after 23:30 only rest and no study or work.

At first, it will be difficult for you to have time to complete all the tasks by a certain date, but over time (it took me about two weeks to do this), you will get used to it and will win: you will get enough sleep and rest and at the same time not score on either work or school tasks.

Is it worth it to tell at work that you are a student, and at school that you are working?

Letting your employer know that you are a student is definitely worth it. Remember that while studying you have sessions, serious couples that you can’t skip, or any responsible events, that is, in any case, there will be such moments when you need to be present at the university at work time. Do not forget that often you do not just work in a team - you work in a team where a mistake or indifference of one can negate all the efforts and achievements of another.

But to report at school that you are working is not always worth it.

Many teachers have a negative attitude towards the secondary employment of students, believing that it will negatively affect their studies. A different opinion is often found among practicing teachers who work at the enterprise and teach you a couple of times a week profile disciplines. You can safely ask such teachers to take time off from the couple, and then close the gaps with additional speeches, reports, etc.

You know the morals of your teachers, therefore, before publicly announcing that you are working, think about whether it will come back to you later.

About vacation

Try to take time off from a session if you feel like it's going to be bloody. Surrounded by books, notes and tablets, trying to drive a ton of information into the poor head, you will push the work not even to the second, but to some fourth plan and then you will not clear up all the blockages that have formed.

About the weekend

Weekend

Someone once said that "we arrange holidays for ourselves." The same can be said about weekends.

Each of us has such moments when we understand that we are tired of everything, we do not want anything and we need to rest. Ignoring such impulses threatens with apathy and depression, so do not get too carried away with off-calendar weekends, but arrange them for yourself when you feel an urgent need for it: take a day off from work and skip school. Spend your free time the way you want: sleep, take a walk or do what you like.

After such an unscheduled day off, you will gain strength and be able to work and study more productively.

Don't be afraid to ask colleagues for help

There is nothing to be ashamed of. It's good if you work in a department, and not as an independent, sole and irreplaceable specialist. Although in any case, remember that a way out can always be found. And in secret: many people like to help others, so they feel their importance and usefulness.

Forget about studying at work, and at work - about studying

As soon as you crossed the threshold of the office, you ceased to be Ivanov from X-41 and Petrova from Y-52. You are an employee who works for a company. As soon as you were at the university, you stopped being an employee and became a student.

You should not be nervous about work at school and try to spend a 10-minute break business meeting. Do not torment yourself with educational problems at work. Everything has its place and its time.

Relax at work from study, and at study - from work.

Remember you can stop at any time

You didn't sign an employment contract with blood. No one chained you to a desk at the university. This is your life, and it is in your power to give up everything that you consider unnecessary at any time.
